Starting problem
1. Test battery (Should read 12.5-13v). If not charge or get tested, may need replacement.
2. If battery is good, take a pair of jumper cables, connect Black lead between (-) Negative side and the the block of the engine (often there are metal brackets, etc they make good connection points). Then connect the Red lead, between the the (+) Positive side of battery and JUST TAP the end to battery connection on the starter solenoid to see if engine turns over. CAUTION: Engine vehicle is in Park, parking brake set, and will not move before attempting this procedure.
2a. If this does not turn over engine, remove starter and have it tested at an auto parts store.
2b. If it does turn over there are two paths to further troubleshoot. (1) check battery cables. One way to do this is to turn the ignition key on, and attempt to start the car by the method described in 2.. BUT EXTRA CAUTION: Engine vehicle is in Park, parking brake set, and will not move before attempting this procedure. (2) if the truck did not start in (1), then you will have to wire trace the starting circuit checking all fuses, connections, etc. (local auto parts stores or often local library, carry Haynes Manuals that have wiring diagrams int the back)
Best of luck resolving this problem.
