My guess would be a short in the harness in the column. All three circuits go thru the turn signal switch.

Is the check engine light on ?The engine could have a slight miss-fire which would be made worse by the load of the a/c.

There are two ports with plastic caps - one is bigger than the other and that keeps you from connecting to the wrong port.Follow the a/c lines and look for the ports.

I really need to know what you mean by not starting, does it crank over with the starter but the engine fails to fire up? Or does it do nothing no cranking nothing? The fuel pump inertia switch for a 2001 Ford Explorer is in the
right front passenger footwell by the kick panel. It is usually black with a reset button on top.
