sounds like a crappy ignition switch

check for a vacuum leak first... then suspect a idle control solenoid issue

this could be a trans issue

a professional carb cleaning, new or CLEAN air filter and NEW spark plug!

Is the front end clear of mud? they sometimes get jammed up like that. Is it electronic or by Vaccuum?

Suggest that you locate the charcoal canister that absorbs gas fumes from the tank (located in the engine compartment). Follow each of the 2 hoses that are connected to it. I suspect that you will find a crack in one of the hoses. You can replace the hose or splice a piece into it at the crack.Jim

If the shocks are worn out, get off the machine and lift up on the back rack. This takes up the slop between the shifter box and the transmission, and usually allows me to shift. I also had an issue with the thin steel plate behind the shifter box. Got a crack in the top , so it was flexing, creating more slop. Welded it shut, good as new.
