I have a dvd burner Liteon DH20A4H. It's detected okay by windows XP SP3. Current firmware on drive is the last one for that drive: QP5B. Drive does not read disks. No matter if they are blank, originals nor recorded by the drive itself. Nothing. It's like you never put a disk on it.

Thats a very unusual problem. I have had this drive in the past and apart from being noisy as all lite-on's seem to be it has given great service. the only suggestion i can make is that you update the firmware by going onto Lite on's site and download the latest revision of firmware. if still the same then can only assume the drive or your burning software is corrupt.
Are the power and data cables plugged in from the DVD-RW to the PC?
If cables are plugged in ans secure, download the driver and install it on your PC. You might need to restart after that.
If Windows detects and installs your hardware, let it do so and relax.
If you install Nero, and it then detects and installs your hardware, again let it do so and relax.
If neither of the above work, next time you use windowsupdate.microsoft.com you will normally get a good driver for anything that is currently not working.
If you wanna download, try this: http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/224420/liteon-sohc-5235k-combo-firmware-lk04-free-download.html
However, this claims to be firmware, while then giving instruction on installing a driver so I can't be sure which it is. I haven't tried this last link.
Hello all, I have a LiteOn SHW-1635S IDE DVD/CD burner running on Microsoft XP Media Center OS with firmware version YS0Z Driver version 5.12535.0 The Hardware is Gateway GT 5058 approx 2 yrs old For some reason, this drive will not recongnize ANY rd-r media of any kind . I have tried the flashes.
Are you saying the bios detects the drive, but when you go to My Computer you cant see the drive listed? If so, Right click on My computer and in the menu select 'manage', In the Computer management window select removable media and activate the drive. It will then show in My computer, and be able to read/write cd's/dvd/s. If this does NOT work, then update the firmware for the drive. A lot of times when you buy a new drive, the firmware on it is out of date and the manufacturer has a new firmware out for it to fix computability issues with the collage of hardware thats out there.
You just answered your question......."all drivers I assume present and ok" update your drivers..how old are the drivers for WIN98? how old are the drivers for XP. These are relevant to having the correct drivers for the correct operating system. The benefit for you is that you are running to operating systems seperately on two drives or am I mistaken. They need an update on the drivers for each OS and not a firmware update one is hardware the other is software? Your problem is the software.
