USB Conect needs XP driver???

Hello,
Just unpacked my dvd unit. Pluged it into my XP machine, and was told I need some drivers. Looked online, lots of firmware update drivers available, but liteon corp. says no drivers needed for XP.

Clearly something is wrong. HELP

the unit is a Lite On SOHW-1673SX sorry forgot to post

    Hello,
I agree that the drive should NOT need drivers for XP. The lite on website says this as well. It does not explain why I am being prompted for drivers, or which drivers I should direct XP to.

I have several USB 'mass storage' externa devices. Non are Optical, just HDDs,but they all work fine... Not sure what's going on ???

Any ideas about xp settings that need to be changed??? or is there an actual driver, inf or something I may be missing ???

Any Ideas would be helpful. Thanks

I have a WD600ue External IDE hard drive.
When i plug this using any enclosure it is not seen on my computer but it goes through the process of "found new hardware" and shows me that a USB mass storage device is installed. It also appears under Disks on the Device manager as Generic USB drive but i cannot see it anywhere.
    So far I have tried:
    1. Downloading and installing generic drivers for USB
    2. Tweakui power setup and played around clicking and unclicking the alphabets.
any more ideas would be really appreciated, i have so much info on that HD. and this is the last time im buying a WD product.

    Thanks
    Nimz

This isn't a solution, it is a statement.

You did not provide a solution you just stated the obvious.

You really shouldn't need drivers for this drive in WinXP. I could be wrong on this one.

Check under device manager for DVD/CDROM drives. It should be listed once it is connected.

Hello!
If you change the conections to the machine you need to change the port of the driver.
For exemple: If your machine is conected by TCP/IP you need to put the correct port in the driver properties.
If you conect to USB you need to chenge the port in the driver properties to the USB option.
If you have any doubt reply to me. I will be glad to help you
See you!

I have a toshiba satellire m55-s135. The cd/dvd player is not working. I have purchased an external SuperMulti Drive but the external player does not work. I cannot even get the cd that came with the...

You external unit has to be picked up by your operating system in order to work. Is it a USB external player? Personally I would have just bought the replacement of the original drive online and replaced it instead of band-aiding it with an external drive. Now a hard drive external is different but a DVD or CD drive is just a fix for a problem that does not need to be there by getting a replacement for the original one that is apparently not working. This is not to sound mean towards you it is something for everyone to consider when reading this post. I'm assuming you have XP installed on this lap top and you need a driver.
btjunkie.org is my resource for all of my XP drivers I answer this question a lot from folks that need drivers. If you can I suggest upgrading anyway to Win 7 they are downloaded mostly for you during the install process which makes it a lot easier these days to fix machines. Less time in any event go to that site make sure that you have U torrent a torrent file down-loader program software. Type in the search box once at the btjunkie site XP drivers you will have thousands of them to download on one disk insert the disk then go to devices seek the drivers needed to be found point the seek to your drivers disk and hopefully it can be had. I never have an issue with drivers using the software downloaded from there site. I hope this assists you. It is also for those of you who read this post to keep your driver files with your purchase when you bought the computer. If this is not the case then you will have to hunt them down.
Now Win 7 would be a great software program for this lap top depending on the resources it has. It is all about plug and play. Without the hassle of seeking drivers. Especially with new stuff installed on your computer. The easier the better. I hope this assists you with your project it is a great learning experience for sure. John

After adding a network printer which is on a Windows 7 computer - on a XP computer it is possible to open the printer but printing test page crashes windows explorer

Check your installed print server software for 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Both versions need to be on the machine that is directly connected to the printer, if you have a mix of the two types of Operating systems. 32-bit XP is very common and Win7 64-bit is becoming widespread.

(For HP printers using the manufacturer's UDP software, I found that if the printer was installed directly on a 64-bit Win7 machine, it failed. After installing the 32-bit software version in addition to the 64-bit, all the problems went away.) At least with the HP software, we did have a few minutes of confusion trying to find where the driver actually ended up. Double-clicking the downloaded file unpacked the drivers but didn't install them at the same time.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(obviously there are no firewall problems. I'll also assume the printer drivers were loaded without a problem on the two individual machines. This may have meant connecting it to the XP computer for a few minutes via the USB cable with some printers; consult your manual or the online support for the model.)

Hello, I'm afraid that i'm going to sound ridiculously stupid. but i've just been told that in order to use my acer aspire one p531h obk for work that i need to use a softfone and a usb or blue tooth...

Yes it should be fine. That laptop looks to use a N270 processor so no problems with trying to get 64bit drivers. Laptop has a builtin soundcard and supports USB and Bluetooth.

Any new good USB or Bluetooth headset will come with drivers for XP, Vista and Windows 7 32bit. Vista drivers should work with Windows 7 if non are availble yet, but you will need to try 'em. I'm assuming you are not running Linux tho...
