Question about Lite On (SHW-1635S) DVD RW Dual Layer Burner

1 Answer

Does not recognise any discs inserted in drive,LED continually flashing all the time since firmware upgrade,Prior to this 'c' drive failed, 40Gb partitioned, win'98' on one and XP pro on other,'d' drive 20Gb ok, had 10Gb drive available as replacement 'c' drive, loaded with XP pro, drive kept failing to see a lot of blank discs, so upgraded firmware, computer says successfully, everything working ok,NERO toolkit says all ok, but with LED FLASHING will not read anything, message reads 'no disk in drive', all drivers I assume present and ok. Any Ideas, all thoughts helpful

RAYVONNE, Thanks PAEROA but I no longer have room for two sytems, with only a 10Gb replacement for 'c' drive, I am only running XP WITH SP2 which leads me to think the drivers are ok, the pc says it has the best driver when I asked it to update driver.

DVDRW 1653s can not read and write dvd

  • Anonymous Jul 15, 2008

yes i have the same problem

  • NiKKi Jul 19, 2008

Yes I have a Lite-on DVDRW SOHW 1632S I just installed it 3days ago. It read a dvd and I was also able to burn a movie. Now when I click on My Computer it comes up as a CD drive(D) and won't read any blank discs weather dvd or cd. I use VSO (Copy to Dvd) software and thought Id try Anydvd but this states my drive as having no dvd or cd burner. Please help? When I tried to burn a disc an error came up saying to try a different brand of media, but I have so many different brands already as my last dvd started doing the same thing as this one is doing but I had been using that one for 3yrs it was a Samsung Writemaster SH-W162C

You just answered your question......."all drivers I assume present and ok" update your old are the drivers for WIN98? how old are the drivers for XP. These are relevant to having the correct drivers for the correct operating system. The benefit for you is that you are running to operating systems seperately on two drives or am I mistaken. They need an update on the drivers for each OS and not a firmware update one is hardware the other is software? Your problem is the software.

If cables are plugged in ans secure, download the driver and install it on your PC. You might need to restart after that.

I intalled model iHAS324-32 Y to replace iHDS 11807-4 and vista wont run with it. Tells me to uninstall it and contact manufacturer. I uninstalled it and system works fine again without the disc drive.

Is your vista a 64 bit OS? If so this dvd-writer is compatible with 32 bit OS. You may need to upgrade the firmware for it. Maybe this link can help LiteOn firmware search.
I've upgraded firmware for a dvd writer already with no bad consequences but I have crashed one of my motherboards trying to do the same. So if you're not comfortable doing it, get the people you bought it from or some techie to do it for you. Hope this helps

Purchased a 10 pack of dvd-rw discs, 2 work and 8 dont what to do

You won't get any satisfaction contacting memorex. Before you take them back to the store, go online and check for a firmware upgrade for your dvd/cd drive. It's also possible that your burner has a dirty lens. If you can't upgrade your firmware/driver and the lens is clean, I'd bring the pack back to the store.

USB Conect needs XP driver???

You really shouldn't need drivers for this drive in WinXP. I could be wrong on this one.

Check under device manager for DVD/CDROM drives. It should be listed once it is connected.

Cannot play disks

There are 2 lasers, one for CD and one for DVD. Most likely, your DVD laser is not working right. The new firmware update only supported more media: (link to update and details) DVD burners are cheap now a days (I just got a DVD lightscribe burner for $40 at CompUSA...Who is also going out of business)
