Thats a communication error between the ice room fan and the control board. if you pull the freezer door out and look at the back wall on the left side. you'll see the indent for the ice room fan. its probably frozen. you can unplug the fridge and use a hair dryer to blow heat directly on fan for about 20-30 min. then plug fridge back in. if that does't clear the code. then you're going to have to replace the fan.

I think your error code is actually ER 1F not ER IF.

I have a Kenmore Elite Refrigerator, Model No. 795.77573600. The ice and water dispenser give the error message Er 1F. In searching online it appears that this problem is related to the ice compartment...

This is an error code for the icemaker fan motor.
If the control does not see a signal coming back from the fan motor you will get this error code.
Please see the image below from the service manual that explains the ER IF error code.

The ER IF code indicates a failure of the icing fan.

You may notice slower ice production but the other fans should be okay.

You can select the ultra ice option and see if the fan toggles on.

The fan or the control is bad.
