I saw you were giving advice on a Homelite 26cs which could be a carb or exhaust problem. I checked the exhaust but the same issue happens with it off. I can start the engine, but when I go to run it will either die after 30 secs or if i throttle it sounds like it bogs down instead of a acceleration type noise I would expect. This issue came up one day after the fuel filter came off the line. I've checked the line, filter, etc but all seems ok to me. Any help is appreciated.

When your fuel filter came off...your saw sucked in dirt into the carb, clean your carb and you should be on your way !

Why won't primer bulb fill on homelite 26cs weadeater?

a primer bulb should not actually fill, that said, if it is not priming your carb then there might be a tiny crack or pin hole that is letting air in as you try to prime, order and change the primer bulb.

Trimmer repair manual

Check for fuel to carb. Check for ignition by removing plug and laying metal case against cylinder head, pull starter and watch for spark. Check carb. Air filter and check exhaust port on muffler for dirt dobbers and carbon buildup. While plug is removed hold finger over spark plug port and see that you have a good bit of compression. If this does not help remove and replace or rebuild carb.

Carb ajustment

Only Info I see is "Homelite Chain Saws" - not much to go on.
Most saws have two carb adjustment screws, Hi, and Lo.
Assuming the saw will start and run enough to warm up, then
adjust the Lo screw in, clockwise, until the motor starts to slow down,
turn only about 1/8 turn at a time. From the point where it starts to slow down, turn it out about 1/4 turn. This should give you a decent idle. Now pull the throttle, and see what happens.
A - Saw runs up to speed, but dies off, or starts to slow on it's own.
turn Hi idle screw out about 1/4 turn.
B - Saw speeds up, but runs sluggish, fat - not real hi end.
Turn Hi screw IN, about 1/8 or so, and try again, or adjust
while running at full throttle. (best way)
IF it won't run well, try turning both screws all the way in to seat them, then come back out about 1-1/2 to 2 turns. this should get you in the ballpark to set things up as above.

Once the saw is running well, adjust the idle screw to a smooth idle but slow enough that the chain stops moving.

Stay safe

My homelite chain saw will only run after I prime the fuel once gas runs out engine stops running but reprime fuel the saw will run until fuel runs out any suggestions

Did you replace the fuel lines? If the filtered hose feeds the primer that is exactly what happens. Your fuel system should be similar to this.
Fuel Line Replacement
  • The hose in the tank with the filter on the free end connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer bulb, an output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill as it inflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns displaced fuel to the tank as it is depressed.

Homelite bx90 leaf blower: won't run in cold weather

Basics to check:
1) Spark plug - brown or dark brown - OK
a) is it carbon or fuel fouled
b) is there spark

2) Muffler remove for inspection
a) exhaust screen clean or plugged
b) inspect cylinder wall/piston as the flywheel is slowly rotated
3) Check cylinder compression

Fuel starvation - 'lean fuel' condition
Basic things to check:
1) spark plug
2) spark arrestor in muffler
3) fuel lines and tank filter
4) turn adjustment needles out (counterclockwise) 1/4 to 1/2 turn
Chain Saws:
5) check impulse tube and intake boot for cracks or leaks
*if all of the above are OK and/or do not improve performance then:
Remove Carburetor
6) replace gaskets/diaphragms
a) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
b) fuel pump diaphragm goes against the carb body,
then the gasket towards the outside
c) metering gasket goes against the carb body,
and the diaphragm goes towards the outside

Saw will not start, excessive amount of gas coming out the exhaus

The Vitan seat you talk about is not a seat at all. It is the soft tip at the end of the needle. Make sure your hi and low speed jets are 1 1/2 turns open. and try again. If problem persists check for piston scarring by removing the muffler and looking into the exhaust port.
