My tv wont show picture or sound but power light is on, it looks as if it is still off but the power light comes on and the lg symbol is lit up along the bottom of the frame. i have tried unplugging everything but that did not help.

There are two capacitors in this TV that went bad. They should be 1000uF by 25 volts along with any other common parts that went bad. You can tell if they're puffed. This repair generally costs about 150-200 dollars.
Look very closely at the screen - is it charged? dimly lit? or not lit at all? I would check voltages on power supply if that is good check the AV mainboard - that could be the case in this LG -

When you push Power Button on remote, TV goes to Standby state i.e its power light (LED) lit but no picture / no sound. Power button on remote has symbol looks like.. ( ! )
Your Tv requires the lamp hours to be re-set. You will need to acess the Service mode settings via a service remote from your authorised LG service agent.
