If half screen is affected it will be either a board (LCD and Plasma have different names) but in those one board drives each side of the screen unit--worst case is the display panel itself which is fatal from a cost point of view.
Its probibly the MagicBright settings, press the button next to the menu button (its down arrow) and change the settings to something else, i changed mine from "Dynamic Contrast" to "Game" and everything is as they should be now.
There are no fans in this model but it looks like either the backlights in the screen are breaking down after they have warmed up or a problem in the inverter board, again part of the driver circuit breaking down after a period of time. They inverter boards can sometimes be replaced seperatly but usually come with a new screen which if the backlights are at fault then the screen would need to be replaced.
mark587, Did you shine a very bright flashlight 1" from the screen to try and see the WIN-desktop ?? Even though the screen appears BLACK. Your words above said: JUST CAN'T SEE IT Did you really NOT see anything? Have you seen any of the longer video clips of "LCD Monitor Disassembly" on YOUTUBE? Some BLACK screen "symptom" lcd displays can be repaired for less than $10 in parts. Capacitors! Also check videos on lcd repair. Then get back here to fixya and I or any of the guys can help you decide what to do with your display whoose screen is now dark and lifeless. After doing the YOUTUBE thing you may even tell us what you will do!!! Hope this was helpful. Yes we do want to hear back from you. please rate this response on fixya. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @ aol.com. Bye for now.
Open the monitor, examine the circuit boards. Look for small components that look like small cans, these are capacitors. If you see any that look bulged on top, then your problem can probably be solved by replacing these. Check out the following sites;
Go into monitor settings and turn "off" X-Contrast. X-Contrast will auto change contrast when backgrounds darkens. However, adjust manually the Brightness and Contrast settings to compensate.
