The fan has recently started running very loudly. It seems to be the fan behind the ice maker. It started getting louder about two weeks ago and has gotten even louder in the last day or two. Sounds like it may be loose or about to go!

It could be an ice buildup. A bad defrost heater or thermostat most likely. Remove the ice maker and back panel and look for ice. Typical failed defrost:

If you see ice like on the left then you have either a failed timer or defrost control OR a failed heater OR a failed heater termination thermostat commonly known in the appliance repair world as a terminator. The most popilar generic terminator is the 25f close and 50f open type, In other words when the ice box is below 25f the termination thermostat is open for business and will allow the heater to commence defrost when powered up by the timer or electronic control to do so. Since the defrost duration is 21 minutes long we need to shut down the heating element to prevent damage to the ice box. So what goes wrong? Look for a failed terminator or a failed defrost heater. If both are fine then the control will be the problema. If it is defrost timer simply advancing the timer forward manually can kick it into defrost and turning it manually several turns and sometimes frees it up, if it is electronic you will have to post a model number for further assistance.

You appear to have a problem with the defrost components (defrost thermostat and/or heater(s)) located behind the freezer rear panel where all of the ice has built up.

Freezer fan starts sounding like its rubbing louder and louder on a french door model 79577312600. if I unplug it clean out the food and use a hair dryer to defrost behind the inner skin at the center vent...

you are correct. it is not the fan causing your troubles.
you have water getting into the fan blade and freezing next to the blade causing the noise.
the ice maker is the most common problem. it maybe leaking behind the panels and causing water to form ice then get into the blade and make the noise.
shut the i/m off for a few days and see if this stops the noises. if so, then check the fill tube, its a plastic tube from the rear of the unit into the i/m. if it is overflowing and leaking then you might need to adjust the tube so it doesnt leak when filling into the i/m. its somewhat simple but may seem hard. just put some type of a sealant around the tube to prevent water from running out of the tube.
if this doesnt fix the problem, then you may have an i/m that needs replaced. but dont do that first. the tube is usually the problem.

Ice Maker quit, everything started to thaw out.

Good day,
Limited information. The ice maker will go into auto lockout if the freezer goes above 14 degrees.
Motors make noise.
There is a fan motor behind the back wall, of the freezer compartment. If the machine is turned on, it should run, and you should be able to hear it.
If not, remove the rear panel and inspect.
The second fan motor, is located in the back rear of the machine, behind the rear cover, it should be running as well.
If both are running O.K. then it is in the compressor itself.
A pricey problem, if it's the compressor. Should be checked by a qualified tech.

P.S. If you feel it is a compressor problem, and the unit is less than 5 years of age, then contact your selling dealer. It would be under warranty.

I have had the GE top frezer a little over 2 months...Afew weeks ago I noticed a noise starting , a kind of weird noise....(its not the ice maker....I turned that off a week ago and it still does it....the...

Sounds like the defrost timer doing its job but with loud efforts. GE is known for its different sounds some clanks to clicks to popping. Thank God for good hearing but curse GE for its poor noise reduction efforts. This is why GE is cheaper than its other competitors. They cut corners welcome to the world of GE. BB

Loud noise from freezer of GE model GSF25TGTB (Side by side)

Problems not related.  The first is most likely the fan, or possibly water dripping on to the fan and freezing, but usually the noise comes from the fan struggling to run.  The cube problem could be as simple as the ice dispenser being put back in wrong.  There is a metal lever under the ice tray that switches between crushed and cubed.  Make sure it is seated properly.

Loud Buzzing noise

Sounds like the fan is hitting some ice build-up. If you can access the area of the fan motor you can try a hair dryer to defrost the ice out of it.
