1. Check for a clog in the air gap:
That's the silver dome on the back of the sink. Not all homes have an air gap for the dishwasher. (Though it is highly recommended!) Lift off the silver cover. Unscrew or unclip the plastic cap on the top. Look inside. Toothpicks are often found there.
2. Check for debris in the sump by:
Remove the lower rack, the lower spray arm, and screens. Use a #15 Torx bit to remove the cover over the drain pump suction. The hole leading to the drain pump is on the left at the bottom. Remove any debris you find.
3. If you find no debris, you almost certainly need a drain pump. After clearing any clogs, if you hear the drain pump humming, but it doesn't turn, replace the pump.
