Computer doesn't recognize MP3 player -

I recently got a Sansa e280 mp3 player as a gift. I've tried to download songs to it by copying songs to my laptop, using Windows Media Player 11. I have made a sync file, but when I connect my mp3 player to my computer, using the cable that came with it nothing happens. The "Start Sync" button does not light, and as player is not recognized. I've hit the "refresh device" button, and the "device refreshed completion" flashes, but I still can't download my playlist to the player. i plug my mp3 into the computer with the usb and my computer doesnt recognize it or detect it like it doesnt even know its hooked up. now i cant put my music on it because windows media player tells me to connect a device my mp3 player won't respond to the computer so now i can't put my music on to it. how do i fix this??

Do you have any other USB devices that are currently working with your computer?

Check My Computer. If the PC recognises the Sansa player then simply add the songs by dragging the files into the player's icon on My Computer. Sometimes this kick starts the built in software included on the mp3 player.

Try to reboot your PC. Leave mp3 player off when start Sync (if button lights up this time).

Turn off CPU, Unplug Power cable, And all usb devices, let it sit for about 20mins. Plug it all back in. Turn on the CPU! Also make sure if your device requires "DRIVERS" or if you have a CD download and install that before anything.

I think I have a solution. First you turn on the MP3 Player and then go to the menu. Go down to settings. Then, go to USB. Go down to "MSC" and hit the middle button. It should take you back to the settings menu. That means you successfully changed that setting. Now plug the MP3 Player back into the computer and open up "My Computer." It should show up. I hope this helps!

I had the same problem, all you have to do is first turn on the Mp3.Then go to settings. Then go down to USB mode. It will probably say, auto detect. But instead scroll down to MSC. If that doesn't work try MTP.

Make sure you are using a data transfer cable, and not just a "Charge Only Cable"... There is a difference, and they may look similar and both connect via USB so it can be tricky.

Make sure you have media player 11
If you can, the best test is to try your player with another PC, to see if you still have the problem. This localises whether the problem is with the PC (most likely the USB) or the player. See the link below (search on "connection problems") for a lot more troubleshooting on this.
Download recovery tool off creative's website.
go to my computer > click on hardware tab >
click on device manager button > in the is next screen on the bottom should have>>universal serial bus controllers
(write these down just in case it cant find them)
right click on them and uninstall
reboot let windows reinstall them

Also told Microsoft hotfix causes this problem try uninstalling the last hotfix
If that doesn't fix it try the USB cable
