It is the drum bearing that separates the drum from the back. Relative cheap fix to do if you are a do it yourself-er.

Hi, You probably will need the following parts to fix the squeal;
6-3705180 Idler arm $6.78
6-3700340 bearing $16.04
[2] 6-3129480 Drum roller shaft $5.53
[2] 12001541 rollers $22.04
33002535 belt $23.80
MAKE SURE DRYER IS UNPLUGGED BEFORE WORKING ON IT
Remove two screws at front bottom, pull front out toward you and remove wires from door switch and remove. Remove front bulkhead and drum. Check all of these parts I listed and replace as needed. Hope this helps

Very loud squeaking noise - like a noisy loose fan belt on a car.

The dryer needs to be rebuilt, new drum belt and drum rollers to cure this problem.

The dryer has started to make a slight squeaking noise, but it is still drying

On a GE dryer the part that squeaks most is a WE3X75. Centerpost drum bearing. It is a simple repair but you must get into the machine. On a frigidaire model The plastic bearing that mounts in the rear sorta like a GE model. No other dryers that I can recall have the squeaks. The newer GE dryers are made very simular to the old reliable frigidaire models so you ought to hit it out the ball park with these 2 links.

We just bought this dryer and after drying a load I touched the top of the dryer and it was incredibly hot? is this normal?

Check your vent it may be stopped up this will cause the top to get overly hot and the bearing to squeak

Noisy dryer......when engaged...making squeaking/squealing noise.

If the noise is like a shaking of rattling , like coins being shaked , then it is an object trapped inside the drum.

If instead the noise is a loud grinding , that may get louder on high speed, then it is usually a bad drum bearing.

If dryer is not cooling, check that the noise is not coming from the ventilation fan.

Rollers and belt tensioner can also make noise.
