The 2 most likely problems are - the cable needs cleaning and re-oiling.
There is a loose strand of wire in the cable that is causing it to bind..

Sounds like a ground fault of some sort, Try looking again for cracked or rubbed wires, Some time they can be hard to distinguish, check ground leads as well, rust, corrosion, loose connections, stuff of that nature. Could also be a faulty CDI, but this is very unusual tha it would cause ground faults,

all you have to do is make a jumper cable atlist gauge 12 wire connect positive to positive and negative to negative... thats it... just find a good spot where you will place the added battery...
