The easiet way to check the fuses is to buy a 12v circuit tester.
You connect the circuit tester to ground (any bare metel on the car, like a bolt into the firewall, or door latch etc) and then put the tester to the metal contact point on the fuse (each fuse has 2 contacts on the top)
Test one of the points, if it lights, you have power, if you test the other side of the fuse, and it's out (this is while the fuses are plugged into the fuse block) then the fuse is bad, if it lights, the fuse is good.
The testers only cost a couple of $ and you can find them at any auto parts store.
Note, there are a number of fuses that don't have power unless the key is turned on.
You can also pull the fuse out and do a visual inpsection to see if it's good, but this isn't always easy to see.
Make sure to replace any bad fuses with the same size fuse that you took out of it.

Cigarette lighter works. Dash lights appear dim. Haven't checked fuses? What all can I check myself? Thanks for your help.
How do you get at interior fuses in a jeep commander?
Have you checked the fuses?
also, has anything else stopped working? Like the cigarette lighter, or dash lights?
