How to remove timer knob from Kenmore washer, model #29422800

I can't remember if the timer has to be pushed in or pulled out to remove it, but the timer knob comes off by turning it in a counter-clockwise direction. Once the knob is off, the clear plastic dial underneath should pull off. There is a single screw under the dial that holds the timer in place. You can access the timer by popping the operator console up. There is a release tab in the front corner of the console on each side. Simply slide a putty knife under the console at each front corner and push straight in from the front. The console will lift up after each tab is released.

If you have questions, or need further advice, please let me know.

PS Is there a particular reason why you are trying to remove the knob? Do you suspect a defective timer? Some problems may give symptoms that make it appear to be timer related, but it may not. I just don't want you to spend money on a timer unnecessarily, if the problem is attributed to something else that is less expensive.

I have to pull the knob on my dryer several times before it starts. It seems like its not catching?? Model # MDE6657BYW

You have an intermittent contact inside the timer. The fix would be to replace the timer (33002803). Be sure to unplug the dryer prior to service.

Pulled knob off 70 series Kenmore dryer.

I just took a look at your unit. Thanks for the model number. The knob when properly functioning, simply slides down over the shaft and should fit snuggly. Take a look at the back side of your knob and see if it is cracked. If it is, part number is 3402594 and your cost is around 55.00 in new or 27.00 in good quality used. Used would be cheaper obviously. Run a search engine for good quality used parts if looking for a used one. Good Luck, Eric Campion
