I am trying to burn a data cd. The process of burning is completed normally but the cd is not accessible. When I insert the burned cd, the cd driver crashes. This happens only when I try to make a data cd. On the other hand I can make music cd without problems. My laptop is Sony Vaio VGN-CR41S and OS is Vista.

DVD is reading the data, but its not writing.......when i went for burning the process status is running but not even it complete 1% in 20 minutes.......WHETHER IT IS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM OR HARDWARE? PLEASE...

make sure the burner is getting consistant power check the leads attached make sure it has good secure connections and are dust free

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard or
you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your DVD/CD then reinstall the driver for this device
if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down cd dvdrom drives if you see a yellow question or exclamation mark? ! or a red x right click you will need to update the driver or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver

this might be because you have not selected the option to burn an certain type of cd/dvd ie:data ,audio ,iso or your burning software does not support the type of cd/dvd you are trying to burn
there are plenty of free burning software programs on the internet
hope this helps you
which burning software??

The laptop burned a disc, then ejected as usual. Another disc was place in the tray, inserted as normal but this time a cd was unable to be burned because the laptop did not recognize the disc or any other...

The automatic ejection takes place when the burn process has completed successfully. Have your tried another writable CD or DVD? If your laptop is not recognizing any more writable CDs/DVDs, then the problem might be a failed CD/DVD drive. Otherwise, it is probably a bad CD or DVD.
Hope this helps.

My cd/dvd drive will not burn cd/dvd's properly. it goes through the motions, but the discs come out as blank, i was able to burn cds at 2x speed, but that was it. any movie, or anything else will go...

ok..
what kind of application you use for burning??

try it again then double check if you really choose the right path of th drive you want to use as burner..

then you are sure that you burn the music as audio cd not data cd..as well as the video cd not data cd..

because if you burn data cd only computers can read that.. not your aplliances like for example your dvd player,cd,etc.

Cd burner makes blank cds

try isolating the problem by plugging an external cd/dvd drive via the USB. use this to burn CD/DVD if the process works, replace your laptop dvd drive.
