Question about HP (350208-001) CD-RW/DVD-ROM (Combo) Burner

1 Answer

HP DVD/CD Burner 300n

CD burner will copy CDs and let me assemble data to copy. However, it will not let me burn ripped music CD. I've used iTunes, Rip Edit Burn Plus, Record Now, and Nero. Each lets me rip and go through processes all the way to the burn process. Then I get a message saying that no burnable disk can be found. I've used several new disks only to be denied a music burn but regular copy works fine with the same disk.

I used Record Now and Rip Edit Burn Plus exactly as you suggested and with new CD-Rs. I was careful to wait until I was promted to insert a black CD. Same result as before: would not copy ripped music to disk.

Still burns copies and data CDs. Just no ripped music.

Since I've almost never ripped music CDs in past, I don't know how long this problem has persisted.

Does it seem that I may need a new burner?

  • Peevey Sep 06, 2007

Any suggestion as to how I might remedy this "no music rip" condition? Buy a new burner? Suicide?

Even a rude suggestion would be better than leaving this situation to hang. (Engineers have an odd way of looking at things.)

I tried NOT inserting media until target information is assembled. Still won't burn. Nothing detected. Origional problem persists as origionally described.

Each attempt at ripping a music CD renders each new blank CD useless for any other purpose.

By now I've assembled quite a stack of disks who's only use is to sail at the neighbor's cat. Perhaps I should constuct a huge mobile of the wrecked CDs and buy another burner.

    Silverdragon,

Burner didn't rip because I was using DVD-Rs instead of CD-Rs. Right. I was being a fucking idiot and I am deeply ashamed.

If you're ever in the Huntington Beach, CA neighborhood, let's meet up so I can buy you several drinks and/or a pizza. I feel so stupid I could eat axel grease.

    [email protected]

    Sorry for the trouble.

    Ron (aka Fucking Idiot)

    Silverdragon,

Thanks for your kind commiserating comments. If I get down your way, and I mean to eventually, the drinks and pizza are still on me.

    Liked the axel greese comment.

    Cheers!
    Ron

My CD-writer will let me get everthing ready to download onto the disc but will not recognize there is a disc in. When I go in a different way it says there isn't enough free space. Another place shows the disc is full. These are brand new disc. CD-r or CD-rw. I am trying to download my pictures onto a cd. I have been through all of the troubleshooting ideas on hp.

How to convert M4P music to MP3

The music and audiobook files you purchased from online stores are protected by DRM. But most mobile players doesn't support DRM format. However you can burn the protected music files to CD-R/RW disc to make an audio CD, then use CD ripper softwares to rip the audio cd track back to MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
There are two ways to convert M4P music to MP3. One way is to use itunes for sophisticated computer user, another way is to use third party program for beginner, which is much easier.Following the steps , then get your job one easily.
Part one: Using itunes to converting M4p music
Step 1: Run iTunes and set burner options firstly. You can choose
Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Burning menu and then select your CD burner.
Note: If you don't have a physical burner, you may use a virtual burner program, NoteBurner. Go to http://www.noteburner.com to download the program. After you install it, you can choose NoteBurner Virtual CD-RW as what you do in the first step.
Step 2: Create a new playlist in iTunes and add all m4p files you want to convert to this new list.
Note: If you use NoteBurner, you need to select the output format in NoteBurner. After you click Settings button, you can set the output as MP3, WAV and WMA.
Step 3: Click Burn Disc button in iTunes to starting the burning. If you use NoteBurner, this is the final step since the program can rip back the burned music automatically. The output folder will be open automatically after all music finishes encoding.
Note: If you burn the m4p files on real CD, you need to rip the music back in iTunes. Open iTunes Edit>Preferences>Advanced menu and click small Importing tab inside the Advanced tab to choose "WAV encoder" or "AIFF Encoder" in the "Import Using" dropdown. In the left-hand panel under "Devices", select the CD that you burned
Step 4: In the main window opposite, deselect any CD track(s) you do not want to convert. Right-click or control-click over them, and choose the "convert to AIFF" or "convert to WAV" option.
Step 5: After the conversion, you may find the converted file at C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorMy DocumentsMy MusiciTunesiTunes Music
Part two: Using third party program to convert M4p music
Comparing to the previous method, the following is more simple and easier, you can finish the job with just several clicks.
Step 1: Free download M4P Converter, install and run it.
Step 2: Clicking "Add" or directly drag-drop protected M4P files. Batch M4P to MP3 conversion supported.
Step 3: In the "Setting" button, choose MP3 format (*.mp3), you can also custom the music.
Step 4: Click the "Start" button to start converting M4P to MP3. After successful converting M4P to MP3, the result shall be stored on the "Output path" folder. Then you can use them for playing without any limitation.

How to Play iTunes Music on Windows Media Player

There's a good chance when you buy music from the iTunes Store that the files that you download will be copy protected by Apple's FairPlay DRM system. It's a great system that protects the rights of the artist and publisher by making it difficult for the consumer to distribute copyrighted material. However, DRM can also be very restrictive by stopping you playing legally purchased music on your MP3 compatible hardware. So, what happens if you want to play your DRM'ed music on a non-iPod?

This tutorial will show you a way to produce DRM-free music that doesn't require any special software that you would normally need to buy. All you'll need is the iTunes software, and a blank CD (preferably a rewritable (CD-RW)).

Before we begin, check for any updates that are available for your iTunes installation, or download the latest version from the iTunes website。

Configuring iTunes to burn and rip an audio CD

CD Burner Settings: In order to set up the iTunes software to burn an audio CD, you first need to go into the settings menu and select the correct disc format. To do this, click on the Edit tab on the main menu and select Preferences from the menu list. On the preferences screen, select the Advanced tab, followed by the Burning tab. First, make sure your CD burner is selected from the drop-down menu alongside the CD Burner option. Next, Select audio CD as the disc format that is to be written by your CD drive.

CD Import Settings: While you are still in the preferences menu, click on the Importing tab to access the CD ripping settings. Verify that the On CD Insert option is set to Ask to Import CD. Next, set the Import Using option to a format of your choice; the MP3 Encoder is your best choice if you want to import audio CDs as MP3 files that play on virtually all compatible devices. Choose an encoding bitrate from the Setting option; 128Kbps is the normal setting that is good enough for the average listener. And finally, make sure the Automatically Retrieve CD Track Names From Internet and Create File Names With Track Numbers and both checked. Click the OK button to save your settings.

Making a custom playlist

To be able to burn your DRM copy protected songs to audio CD you will need to make a custom playlist (File > New Playlist). You can add music tracks to a playlist easily by dragging and dropping them from your music library to your newly created playlist. For instructions on how to achieve this, why not follow our tutorial on How to Create a Custom Playlist Using iTunes.

While creating a playlist, make sure that the total playing time (displayed at the bottom of the screen) doesn't exceed the capacity of the CD-R or CD-RW you are using; typically, the total playing time of a 700Mb CD is 80 minutes.

Burning an Audio CD Using a Playlist

Once you have created a playlist, simply left-click it (located under the playlists section in the left pane), and then click on the File tab on the main menu, followed by Burn Playlist to Disc. The CD drive tray should now automatically eject so you can insert a blank disc; ideally use a rewriteable disc ( CD-RW) so you can reuse it multiple times. Before iTunes starts burning the DRM protected songs, it will remind you that creating an audio CD is for your own personal use only; once you have read this notice, click on the Proceed button to start burning.

Ripping an audio CD

The final step in this tutorial is to import (rip) the songs that you burned onto audio CD, back to digital music files. We have already configured iTunes (step 1) to encode any audio CD that is inserted into the CD drive as MP3 files and so this stage of the process will be mostly automatic. To start ripping your audio CD, simply insert it into your CD drive and click the Yes button to start. For a more in-depth look at this process, read the tutorial on How to Import CD Tracks Using iTunes.

Once this stage is complete, all the files that have been imported into your music library will be free from DRM; you will be able to transfer them to any device that supports MP3 playback.

Note:The only downside in using this method is that if you have a lot of files that you need to convert, then it ends up a slow and tedious process. With this in mind, use a legal drm removal tool if you have a large quantity that you need to convert.

You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs ...does this mean.. to burn the cd onto the computer?

Hello, to Rip a CD to your computer means to convert the audio on the CD into a format that your computer can play, such as mp3 or wma. Windows media player can rip CDs to both formats and stores them in your music folder. Just insert your CD and the option to rip should pop up.
To Burn a CD means the reverse, to transfer music files from your computer to a CD. Media player does this a well, just click the Burn tab to begin.
Thanks for asking, and using FixYa

UNPLAYABLE MP3

Windows media or Itunes can rip a CD for you and convert them into MP3 files. Then you can put in a blank CD in the computer and copy the MP3 files into the CD and burn them that way.

It requires to put the CD into a data format to burn them rather than a music CD format.
