If you mean an exponent of ten, use the EE function (the shifted function of the "," key, located just above the "7" key. For example, to enter 1.2 times ten to the negative 3, press 1 . 2 2ND [EE] (-) 3
To raise a number to an exponent, use the ^ key located just above the divide key. For example, to calculate 3 raised to the 4th, press 3 ^ 4 ENTER
Depending on your version of the TI-30, you will either find a button with a y to the exponent of x or a button that is the carot (^) sign. you would type (1.0075)^(-240), where ^ is the appropriate button (y^x or just ^).
For negative numbers (not just exponents), make sure you use the (-) key just to the right of the decimal point key, not the - key for subtraction.
For what follows I'm going to assume you have at least version 2.53 of the operating system for the 84Plus. If you have an older version, I STRONGLY recommend you update it: http://education.ti.com/educationportal/sites/US/productDetail/us_os_84plus.html
You can use the "n/d" command in the MATH/NUM menu to enter the division bar. For example, to enter 1/2, press 1 MATH right-arrow ALPHA [D] 2 ENTER. If you just want the number, you can also enter it as 1 / 2.
You can convert a decimal number to a fraction using the >Frac command in the MATH menu. For example, to convert 0.2 to a fraction, press . 2 MATH 1 ENTER.
To enter decimal exponents, use the x10^x key below the 3, followed by the exponent. For example, to enter one million, press 1 x x10^x 6 and see 1000000 (actually, the leading one is optional: if you press x10^x without a value, the calculator will supply a 1).
To raise a value to a number, use the x^ key above the sin, followed by the exponent. For example, to calculate 2^3, press 2 x^ 3 = and see 8.
Uh yes it will allow you to enter a negative exponent.... press the numbers you want then hit EXP button, then hit the +/- button and then the exponent. 60 % of the time, it works...... everytime.
