From the Owners' Manual: STOP USING INFANT RESTRAINT AND BASE AND THROW IT AWAY after the date molded into the back of the infant restraint. "DO NOT use this car seat after December (Year)" Please cut off the straps and remove the cover from the seat before throwing away (or recycling). This will keep others from trying to reuse or resell the out-of-date seat.
Hi - We anticipate that you are struggling to get the tensioner strap back into that H shaped piece of plastic - it is very fiddly to do, and you may find it easier to do with the flat handle of a spoon. If you're not sure its done properly take your carseat to an authorised Maxi Cosi retailer and ask them to check it for you.
the secret is on the hidden gap at the front of the car seat ... where it appears to be in a fixed loop at the front slide it to the side to expose a hidden gap in the plastic .. you can then just slide the straps out...as easy as that !! ( easy when you know how)
You're trying to unattach the straps from the wrong end....flip the car seat over and on the very bottom there is a little gold clip that pops out and you can push through the hole.
Okay okay--do not do anything with the big pieces behind the babies back but the gold clips at the **** area..pop those out and shove that piece and the clip and the chest clip through the back of the strap hole--then reput the strap through the slot you wish then the gold pieces back through the bottom and of course pop the gold pieces back--again do not use the upper clips behind the back to do this :0)
Best bet is to give Graco a call. 800-345-4109 I have done it before, you just have to gauge that it looks right. Put on the cover, fit the top (head) part first, then make sure the sides are on good then the bottom (feet) then you need to pull the straps through the slits to cover the shoulders, slide on the chest buckle pieces. Do you still have your manual? I would expcet them to have a diagram of this. :)
Its a GREAT seat! I have the same one! Assuming you removed the harness.
The easiest way I have found to do this is , place the seat on the ground and put the cover on the seat. There are some elastic fastners that are loops on some models, that go onto small plastic poles. IF you don't have this, it is ok.
Then clip the harness together at the chest clip, and at the buckle. This helps you not get so twists.
Put each of the top shoulder straps through the hole in the seat cover AND the plastic of the shell of the seat. For this rear facing seat, the straps should be At or BELOW the shoulders of the infant riding in the seat. When both straps are through the plastic shells, you slide them onto the metal flat mushroom shaped piece on the back of the seat that is attached to the adjustor strap.
Pass the middle strap (the buckle) through the hole in the seat cover and shell. Pull to ensure it catches. NExt, take the small metal cliped bottoms of the harness, and pass them through the seat cover and seat shell in the bottom of the seat, they are in the crease of the side/bottom of the plastic shell. Once they are passed through, give them a good pull to ensure they catch. Repeat for the other side, and you are good to go!
If you washed the harness, in the machine, it needs to be thrown out, call Graco for a replacement.
Just in case you don't still have the number;

I've asked them to send me a manual but i doubt if i can get it before the end of the holidays - here's hoping.

Question:
How do I care and clean for my PortAbout 3/PortAbout V infant car seat?
Answer:
To clean pad slide the elastic loops of the seat pad off of the seat shell. Remove the harness system. Cloth pad, canopy, and head support may be machine washed separately cold water, delicate cycle, tumble dry 10-15 minutes, low heat. Wipe straps, buckles, and harness adjusters with warm damp cloth and mild soap. Air dry. NOTE: DO NOT submerge harness assembly in water. To help protect the vehicle upholstery, place a towel beneath and behind the child restraint.
