I have a Smith Corona Spell-Right I XE-6000. It looks like the "ink" has started running out. I inserted a new typewriter ribbon, but the type still looks about the same. Note: the "new" ribbon has been sitting in the office in its packaging, probably for a couple of years. Is there something I am missing, or do you think the "new" ribbon has gone bad?

the lift of tape has a dull side and a bright side make sure the dull side is toward the paper then press and hold the code key and the = key to reset the typewriter also see page 6 in the owners manual
