Hello Expert, I have this close to 20 year old Frigidaire Fridge/Freezer with the freezer department on top and fridge on the bottom. The problem is that the fridge department is not getting cooled down even if I turn the fridge's thermostat full to 'cold'. However the fan is working fine as I shut the door, but no air to the fridge. If i disconnect the fridge for about 1 hour, and reconnect to power there is cold air to the fridge, but soon will begin to not blow cold air into the fridge deparment (about 1-2 days). The freezer is working normally, very cold with the fan blowing out cold air when the door is closed. But the fridge won't go below 15 degrees celcius. I can confirm 100% the fan, there hasnt been a refridgerant leak or a compressor problem, since the freezer is keeping icy cold. Please reply as soon as possible, you know what it is like to be without a fridge. =) And thank you.

the unit is loosing the freon supply to the evaporator.you either have a leakage,a blockage or the compressor is not pumping to full capacity.

SOURCE: my bottom fridge is not getting cold but my top freezer works

The air circulation is neede to prevent this Make sure it's the freezer fan you hear running.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper)between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air throughit. There is a flap you adjust with thefridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust thefridge temp ..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezerare icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation ofcold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. Inmost newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicksand everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replacethe timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn thetimer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

SOURCE: GE GSS22 refrig wont get cold, freezer does.

Hi, it's possible you have a defrost problem, to know if you have a defrost problem, you should unplug/disconnect refrigerator, remove your produce, leave doors open, for faster defrost, clean and leave unplug/disconnected for about hour, be cautious you will get excessive water from defrosting. let freezer defrost completely, then plug/connect refrigerator, let it work/run for an hour, if it's o/k, put back your produce, if it work good/ o/k for 3 to 4 days and start doing the same thing, you got a defrost problem, defrost problems are caused when excessive ice build up on your evaporator, two things could cause a defrost problem. (1) excessive moisture/ hot air entering refrigerator, hot days, hot foods, regular opening, to close heat source, range/ oven. in cases like that, cleaning of refrigerator will normally solve that problem. (2) faulty defrost heaters, defrost thermostat , located in back of freezer side, you will have to remove shelves and back panel, to get access to it,also check your defrost timer and speed of fan, but first disconnect refrigerator, clean and try , before changing any parts. it could just be excessive moisture. always remember to disconnect your refrigerator before attempting any repairs, let me know what happened, then i could tell you exactly what's problem. good luck
