It will need parts, please read below to narrow down the problem.
Parts and prices: http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=Memorex+MLT3221
First, look at the screen in darkened room to see if you can see any slight glow from the screen, if it does, then the problem can be the T-CON (not getting the 12vdc) or the main logic board not feeding the signals to the T-CON board.
if not, next place to check will be the power supply module, make sure it has 24vdc which is required by the backlight inverter to work, the reason for not having 24vdc can be from bad DC filter caps (leaking/bulging top, high ESR) or short circuits in the inverter board which will cause the 24vdc supply to go into shutdown mode, so you may have to disconnect the power cable that feed the inverter board to see if the 24vdc will work without the inverter board hookup, you will need to apply about 3~4 amp of load to the 24vdc to make sure it can handle that. There are fuses on the backlight inverter boards also. So there is some troubleshooting you will have to do to find out the causes of the problem you are having.

Costomer support

Sounds like a projection issue within the TV itself. Nothing that I think you can fix. A year is not up and it should be under warranty. Send it back to them and they will send you another or fix it. I had an issue like this a while back and I left the TV off a couple of days under a window with direct sunlight. I think it was too Humid in the room it was in or moisture set in. Either way, It was not under warranty and the picture returned like it was brand new. My mom has it now.

Tv problem

Check its horizontal output section circuit for any loose solder terminals. Resolder all suspected solder terminals by applying little more fresh solder. Replace the horizontal output transistor. If this transistor have some leak, it will overheat within minutes will shut down the picture.

Sound stays on, but no picture- goes black and stays that way.

This unit should still be under warranty and should be taken in for warranty service. Any attempt to access the interior will void the warranty. It is important that a complete description of the problem like you entered here be taken along when you bring the set in for service. This will insure that the servicer be able to reproduce the problem and resolve it.

From your description (and as a servicer), I would be looking for a component that is heat sensitive. These types of problems are fairly easy to locate and resolve.

Please take this in for warranty service and update this when you find out the details.

Thanks,
Dan

I have a Sony TV KDF-E60a20 that keeps going black screened during use. It usually stays black for about 2-3 minutes and then comes back on. It is becoming more frequent.

this is usualy caused by exessive dust on circuit boards ,if the screen goes black and the sound stays on this may be your problem, beware tvs hold charge even when unpluged so would advise taking to shop hope this helps andy

TV screen goes blank but power stays on

Sounds like the CRTs are going into protective blanking due to the vertical output ic needing to be resolderd. Try resoldering the vertical IC that may possibly fix the issue.

HP mx705 17 in.CRT Conventional Monitor vertical goes bad

While it is sounding like a hardware problem. I'll throw in my 2 cents. Have you check the cables from the power to the source and from the monitor to the computer. Just make sure those aren't loose. One other thing...you mentioned you turn off the computer "afterwards" then it fixes itself. Is the fix for longer than it turns on at first? or does it stay on longer then goes out? Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim
