I have an HP mx705 17" CRT monitor that works fine for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then, the vertical sweep goes black for a split second to about halfway up the screen. Within 2 to 3 minutes, half the screen goes black. About 2" from the top, and 7 inches from the bottom leaving me with a crunched picture about 6" tall. It stays this way, even after I turn the monitor off for a few minutes. If I shut down and re-start the computer afterwards, it temporarily fixes itself. Any suggestions? HP was not interested in my problem.
It seems that youre monitor has a dry solder problem, try tapping it if the picture resumes to normal for a while than get it resoldered from a technician. if it soesnot solve problem than look out for a burnt resistance.
While it is sounding like a hardware problem. I'll throw in my 2 cents. Have you check the cables from the power to the source and from the monitor to the computer. Just make sure those aren't loose. One other thing...you mentioned you turn off the computer "afterwards" then it fixes itself. Is the fix for longer than it turns on at first? or does it stay on longer then goes out? Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim
