Sony erickson w610i - on video only, i have a BLACK BAND round the image (as if the image is zoomed in) on the still camara its fine & the full screen is used.

the problem with that is that it never used to be there, its only appeared very recently, and on a similar phone its not there.
there was a way of putting it on (albeit accidently) so there must be a way of taking it off

If you are zooming in camera (as in, pressing the zoom button while looking at the back of your camera's LCD), you won't be able to save that version.
You will have to open your picture in an image editor and use the crop tool to crop the image to your liking. You can then save that image as a new image. If you don't have an image editor, pixlr.com is a good, free, web-based option.

Hi, When a phone falls down on the flow and memory card is affected, Memory cards are very fragile and it needs handling with care. Ones it is affected, it does not work again,that is it is damaged and will not work any more no matter how hard you try to make it work. It just happened to my Sony Erickson phone just some weeks ago,i heard to get a new and i lost all data on the memory stick. So bad.
The best advice is to get a replacement and make sure you back up your data in case anything happens to the memory card.
i had that same problem. check your image size, the camera cant zoom if the image size is set to 3.1M or 2.8M(3:2)
how to change image size:
turn on camera and leave it in camera mode (picture taking mode)
press the delete/image button
change image size until camera zooms again
