Assuming the graphics drivers are up to date and assuming you have a high resolution set in the display on the control panel, the screen may be damaged or the VGA cable damaged. In extreme cases the onboard chip may be loosning from the motherboard. You cannot install an external graphics card on this laptop. I would check the above and see if the existing setup can be repaired economically

Laptop will not bootup

I would plug in a cable to another monitor to see if you can get a picture. Most tv's now have a monitor link. You could also try getting on your computer through a network computer if you have one. If it works with another monitor you can use it to help you fix it. Dell has diagnostic programs on their site.

My dell d630 works great but when i connect the VGA port to my sceen it does not work. do i need a driver or is this a hardware issue?

If you attach the VGA and just the projector(or external screen) is not working and your computer still works, it could be a settings option. Connecting it then going to Start>Control Panel> Hardware and Sound>Connect to a projector. Make sure "computer only" isn't marked.

Hope i could help

D630 screen is black once it starts up it illuminates but stays black

You must detect what parts is failure
Screen display, inverter board or lamp
Follow these step.
1.- Connect an external monitor (at VGA port) and check the image in external monitor
If show clear image. The failure may be the inverter board or the lamp backlight
Inverter boars is more easy to replace.

If you don't get a display on the external monitor, then most likely your video circuit is the problem. If your laptop has a plug-in video card it can be replaced. However if it's integrated into the motherboard then you'll have to have that replaced.

Thin green line running down screen on my dell latitude d630

you can try re-seating the LCD cable, see if that makes any difference.

Press Power + D at boot and see if the Green line appears in the 4 solid color screens during the BIST test, if it does, replace the LCD

My dell laptop fell off my bed and now my screen is broken.. is there a way i can get my pictures off?

Provided the screen is the only thing damaged, you have several options.
  1. Connect and external monitor and use it to see what you are doing while you copy you photos to other media. (Fn+F8 enable external monitor)
  2. Remove the HDD, connect it to another system using a USB adapter, and copy your files: http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Drive-Adapter-Serial-ATAPI/dp/B0012TOG08
  3. Replace the broken lcd: http://cgi.ebay.com/DELL-LATITUDE-D620-D630-COMPLETE-LCD-WARRANTY_W0QQitemZ220582533329QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item335bbe58d1

My Dell Latitude D630 will power on but the screen is black....nothing will show not even the startup page for windows. What do you think the problem may be

I would suspect either the video card or your LCD screen.. A good test is to hook up an external monitor and see if that works. Be aware that when you start it up, you will have to hit the function key and special function key combo to switch it to the external display.
On the latitude, that is the Fn key plus the F8 key.

Dell D600 LCD screen turns on but no LCD picture anymore

hook up a CRT to the vga connection on the back of the laptop. Reboot, and press the Fn+F8 key and see if you can view your desktop on the crt. I am dealing with the same issue, but i noticed that i can make out just barely on the LCD my image of the desktop. In researching, it appears that either the inverter is bad or the backlight. Both appear to be very inexpensive to replace but requires some soldering experience. If you wish to give it a try, just look up www.lcdparts.net.

Also goto www.discountparts.com and see if they have a replacement/used LCD screen. That SHOULD be easier to replace.
