Is this a raid configured system. If so then this can happen if there is a conflict in the raid configuration.Reinstalling the raid software may fix the issue.
If this is not a raid configured system then there could be an application from Western Digital which is a utility that monitors the health of the Harddrive and if it finds any bad sectors in the hard drive it gives you this warning message. And if there are bad sectors in the hard drive that may crash the system in feture. So it is better to backup your information before the system crashes so that you wont loose your important information
First make a backup of all your files, (the SMART tell's you your HD is failing) to limit time and money you could download a good hard disk image software and ghost the drive (while it is still working), it will save you from re-installing everything and buy a new hard drive then install the system from the image you made from the ghost
Good luck!
Hard drive going bad, you need to recover all your data as soon as possible. It is likely that the RSC has exceeded the space allocated to spare disc space, however, you can check this by downloading and running HDD tune (freeware) to ascertain the disc health and any bad sectors, if there are more than 2 bad sectors and the RSC on the health page is shown in red or yellow, the drive needs replacing
SMART is used to measure your HDD health. It warns you of impending failure of your hard drive. If it goes down, it's a good idea to backup important stuff and prepare to replace the HDD.
S.M.A.R.T is an acronym for Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology systems (SMART) and it's usually built in to most modern ATA and SCSI hard disks.
