My visioneer OneTouch 5800usb scanner software is incompatible with the windows xp on my computer(it is compatible with windows 95 and 2000)

The problem that you are asking is unclear, but I will try to answer as best as I can.

The 8100 scanner only support drivers for windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP SP 1.

The drivers for supported OS versions are available here: http://support.visioneer.com/products/8700/downloads.asp . The supported OS versions are: Windows XP SP 1 / 2000 Professional / Me / 98SE and the additional software that was bundled on the CD is not included.

If you have a different Microsoft OS, you can check the Microsoft compatibility center for either Vidat or Win7. A check of the Win7 compatibility Center http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx showed some Visioneer OneTouch scanners work with Win7. However, the 8700F is not in the list.

(Dual boot with XP or a virtual computer with an older valid OS version will work. The Win7 Pro and Ultimate let you use Virtual PC and XP mode to run an XP virtual computer for free.)

First install your regular drivers for your scanner and then turn it off.

Download drivers for your scanner from the page above, don't mind it is not the same model - it will work. Also it will work with One touch 8700 Visioneer windows 7 x64 with the drivers for 8900 and 9420.

Next, install the driver, and then open Windows Explorer i locate files at:
C:\Windows\twain_32\VizScan\8xxx. Copy them all to:
C:\Program Files\Visioneer\OneTouch 4.0\9420 Driver
Next step is to tell your computer exactly what driver to use by right clicking on My Computer in Windows Explorer, then Properties, and then Device Manager. Now, turn on your scanner and it will appear on the list. Right click on it and select Properties. There click "Browse my computer for driver software" and then "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" and browse to: C:\Program Files\Visioneer\OneTouch 4.0\9420 Driver. Select OT_9420.inf and install it. Now u can use your scanner on Win7 and enjoy! Don't mind the different name! ;)

It is not compatible with windows Vista.

Looks like the older visioneer scanners are not compatible past win xp...

There is not a driver available for Windows 7. One thing you can try is to run the software in windows XP compatibility mode if your version of Windows has it. When you go to run the software disc for the scanner goto my computer and right-click on the icon then click properties. You can then set the compatibility mode to run on XP. Then run the software by double left click on the icon after you have set the compatibilty mode for XP. I cannot guarantee this will work but it is worth a try. If you download the software to the desktop the process is the same.

There is no lock on the Visioneer 5800 USB scanner. I had the same problem with my 5800 and finally noticed that the scanner lamp was going bad. I replaced it with a good lamp out of an old Acer parallel port scanner that even had the same plug, noticed that an older HP that I have sitting around would have interchanged as well. My 5800 now works great and has been tried on both 98SE and XP with SP2.
