I have a Lenovo 3000 J Series XP Professional Service Pack 3 system, with a Seagate ST3160815A Barracuda 160 gig hard drive, with an ATA-100 interface. If I upgrade to an SATA hard drive with 500 gig or more, does the motherboard support the SATA interface? Or would I need to add on an SATA interface card? Thank you.

Try to boot a different cd, to determine whether the drive is bad or if the cd is bad. If it is the drive, you can try cleaning it or replacing it. If it is the XP cd, borrow one fro a friend and use your license, which should be on you unit.

The drivers could be down loaded from the Lenovo/IBM web site.

You will likely have to go through and create another boot disk, but this time, include the drivers that are going to be needed for SATA and your NIC. I have used an older version, but you should be able to include the drivers, and auto install / config then reburn the CD.

Can not read

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electic extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

hope this helps

I want to detect driver Thanks

There is _NO_ need for any additional device-driver -- Windows "natively" supports all disk-drives.

How many times a harddisk can be formatted?

The ram, processor and the motherboard will not be affected, but the hard disk will be eventually. The hard drive will be affected but in a slight way. Try to make a recover image for your O.S.

Seagate hard drive moved from one computer to another won`t boot

Now this is just my opinion but i tried to do the same thing one time and it would not work so I was left with one choice. Do a fresh install, I bought a second hdd and did a fresh install then plugged my original hdd in as a secondary so I could still access my old files.

Seagate sata hdd error

Quick format removes files from the partition, but does not scan the disk for bad sectors, while a normal format does that. That's why the formatting takes so much longer.
You should definitely check your drive for bad sectors by issuing "chkdsk /r" in the command line, which scans for and attempts the recovery of bad sectors.

If there is a bad sector somewhere, your system might crash at any time and it might be at a very inconvenient moment.
If you find bad sectors, you should consider replacing the drive
