Hi.....Daz...... what do you call excessive? Two things........ firstly you must make sure your vehicle is in optimum running condition, so you need to check and renew if required, things like air and fuel filters, plugs, check spark plug hi tension leads, coils and wiring harnesses, timing, injectors , engine management systems....... checking also for fuel leaks around pipes and unions and the tank. If all ok, then you must carry out a controlled fuel consumption check. fill your tank brimm full......note the mileage and drive the vehicle normally, do not make an effort to drive economicly, drive as you would daily for a couple hundred kms, return to tha same garage and same pump, brim the tank and note the mileage and litres filled and do a calculation of how many kms per litre... I think you might be surprised........... bear in mind that the vehicle has done in excess of 150000 k and as the engine gets older will loose some fuel efficciency..... its called wear and tear..... hope this helps.... Happy Christmas.......... Steve Botswana

2001 grand vitara runs good but stalls every time I hit the brake, I had a corroded positive terminal I replaced it and now I have this problem

stalls, there are 50 ways to stall a motor,
1: engine lost compression. (can do that hot, or over heated)
2: lost spark.
3: bad fueling. (too much or too little)
4: isc sticks (can your right foot avoid the stall easy, bingo ISC.
5: lost electric power to EFI system. lost 12v, (even a loose fuse)

sounds to me #5 based just on the brake deal.

Where is the fuel filter location on a 2001 ford explorer sport trac?

It is inside the left frame rail below the drivers door, you need a special tool to release the filter from the line. filter just snaps into its metal holder. Good luck and you can get the fuel line quick release tool at most Auto Parts store.

2002 Grand Vitara engine light

Try these easy things...take off clean and reconnect the battery cables, take to Auto Zone for a FREE computer hook up. More than likely if the battery hook up doesn't work it's the oxygen sensor.
