It appears as if the monitor's back lighting is failing. To test the theory, take a bright flashlight and shine it on the lcd monitor screen when it goes black. If you can see the images that were on the screen before it went dark while shining the flashlight on the screen, then the back lighting is failing. Depending on the monitor, it could have florescent or L.E.D. back lighting, but it's usually more economical to simply replace the monitor with a new better performing monitor, than to attempt repairing the back lighting on the failing monitor.

SOURCE: LCD Monitor blacks in and out for 1-2 seconds

does your monitor have an external transformer as the psu ?
If so, try disconnecting at mains for about 5 seconds and re-connect. failing that we'll need to dig deeper.

SOURCE: monitor goes black in 2 seconds

Check the data and power cables. One of them might be loose.

SOURCE: When turn on, get a picture for a fraction of a second then blank

I fixed it based upon a suggestion in the on-line manual. I held the "menu" button on the monitor down for more than five seconds, then turned the monitor off and back on, and it was working.

Dell E173FPc monitor. Screen is black, power button color cycles

Hi,
First, verify the monitor is functional.
Monitor STFC (Self Test Feature Check)
Turn off the monitor
Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any
surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
Turn on the monitor
The floating dialog box should appear on screen against a black background.
If the issue appears during the STFC, the monitor is defective.
What are the results please?

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

If tried the monitor on two other computers with the same result -- definitly your monitor is faulty. Take it to the repair shop. To make double sure, run your computer with another monitor. If everything is fine now; you can blame the monitor.

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

The power -inverter board probably needs an overhaul.
I redo many of these.
If the screen was pinkish or flickering before it finally got to this point, it is possible that a bulb has gone bad.

There is just no way you will be happy to hear it needs service or replacement under warranty.

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

I am not familiar with your particular model, but I do know what the problem is.
The inverter that runs the lights behind the screen is faulty and needs to be repaired. The lights shine from the top and bottom and reflect outwards through the panel so you can see what is on the screen. If you start the computer up, then shine a bright light into the panel you will see an image on the screen, but very feintly.
This can be cheap, it can also be expensive depending on where you go to get it repaired. Call aorund to a few TV shops in your area to get a rough idea on prices.

Hope that helps =)

Screen blacking in and out

Hi Esdee, Don't be too surprised if the monitor is having problems. The fact that it does the same thing on another PC is pretty good proof that is in fact the monitor. As far as what is going on the green power LED going on and off in conjunction with the blackouts indicates a power problem to me. - Does wiggling the power cords, plugs cause any change? - When the screen blacks out shine a flashlight on the screen and look to see if you can see any faint images. If you do then you have a backlight problem. If none of this works any further troubleshooting really requires some experience working around electronics and high voltage. Let us know how you want to proceed, as as always please don't forget to rate this posting.
