Computer power button

My son literally kick-started the computer. Guess what? The power button [very large] won't work now. Any suggestions for fixing the computer [I'll handle the kid].

Thanks. I gather by "conductable" you mean touching?? Not sure--I'm really not mechanical at all.

What you can actually do is just jump start the computer.... get a paperclip,(hold on to it)look were the power button is connected on the motherboard "u must open the case" its covering two pins... now what you can do is take that off get the paperclip(make shure you actually make it conductable) and "connect or shory" those two pins together... ill update pictures for more details later

I have a PC that died completely - not reacting to the power switch at all. Over the last few months I've replaced the PSU and, more recently, the MOBO and CPU, but it's still dead. I ordered a new case...

connect the positive lead of a multimeter to one wire from the switch, connect the negative lead to the other wire. Set the meter to ohms. Push the button, does it go to 0 ohms? Let go of the button, does it go to infinite ohms? This should tell you if your switch is working without having to take it out of the case.

My pc automatically get start on plug on .and then it suggest me to press F1 to Continue. when I do this it takes incorrect date and time how to restrict it.I want to start it with start button on cabinet

There can be many reasons...
  • Your BIOS setting is not correct.
  • CMOS battery is down(Most probably).
  • both
You can open the BIOS setting page by pressing keys like DEL, F10, etc. depending on your system's manufacturer at computer startup(post screen). There are lots of wakeup options check them properly.
One of the option is "Restore last state of power Button on failure" which can turn on your computer without touching the power button. you should check these options.

And it suggest you to press F1 because your system's date/time is not configured properly. You can also set Time/date in BIOS also.
If your BIOS Battery(CMOS) is not weak or dead then after setting these values your computer should start properly.
And if your BIOS battery is dead then all the settings will be lost(date/time etc) after a restart and you will face same problem again...

Try changing the Power-button option and Date/Time in BIOS and see if problem persist....if yes then you have to change COMS battery that is on your Motherboard.

Your computer either has a fault with the power button in which you can request off the manufacturer a replacement (may cost money depends on warranty) or you do not have enough power for the computer components. Try removing all the peripherals except from screen, keyboard and mouse and then try booting. If it works then you dont have a large enough power supply for all the equipment you have. If it still does not work then it could still be a power supply (PSU) fault in which you can take the psu to your local computer store and they can test it for you.

hope this helps

Similar "No Power" problem

You're not giving us enough to go on. "The other problem like this" is not listed here, so we can't refer to it. Is the power button connected properly? One way to check is to remove the board completely, connect the power supply and short the power pins. This will tell you if the board and power supply are working.
