I have what i think is a 1996 honda vt600 shadow the engine number is pc21E. This is a good bike but has a 4 speed trans and i was wondering if you can put a 5 speed gear set in it and also can you exchange the top end to a bigger size like a 750 keeping the lower end the same

Hi,The shadow vt600 is all 4 speeds as what I have read.I live in the Philippines and the same bike here is called a steed,here they make a vt400cc and it has a 5 speed trany. I believe that the case is different and even if it could be done I don't think the trans would stand the power of the vt600, as the power is about 56hp@6500rpm on the vt600 and only 34hp@7500 on the vt400 and for the bore question I have no idea.

How many gears are in a 93 honda vt 600
It depends which motor is in your machine ( if it has been changed ). Early models of the vt600 shadow were four speed transmissions. Later they added fifth gear. Your cycle in 1993 was a 4 speed model.

Yes. The gear shift pattern is usually stamped on the side of the engine case next to the shifter. Early VT600 Shadows were 4 speed transmissions. When you are in top gear on most Honda's you can move the shift pedal up with no resistance while driving. It is a way I use to check that I am in top gear when driving at slower speeds.
