I purchased a new Dell 560 computer. It won't accept my older Lexmark Z23 printer disk. What can I do?

Z23 printers only support up to Windows 2000 according to Lexmark.

Sometimes you can plug unsupported printers into Windows 7 and get limited functionality, but given the age of the Z23 series, you'll probably need to get a new printer for a Windows 7 machine.

Go down the page untill you see a box with an icon of the earth with a green arrow and "Download Lexmark Z23 Driver:" written above it

Click on the icon and your driver will download. Further down the page it makes reference to the driver should be OK for Vista.

Did you check the Microsoft Compatability List (search that title) to see if your Lexmark is supported by the new OS on your new Compaq?

Please check the list. If yo dont find your printer listed, you will have to ask Lexmark for a driver that will work with your new computer. E-mail them if you cant find it at www.lexmark.com/support. If you dont have any luck, you might find a 3rd party driver, but you will probably have to pay for it. You could reconnect your Lexmark to your old printer and add it to your netrwork and print that way. Finally, if none of this works out, you may have to purchase a new printer certified to run on your new OS.

BTW, this is a very common thing with old printers and new computers. That is why Microsoft built the Compatability Listing.

the printer will probly work only older printer like win 98 win 2000 pro and Xp
they are very fussy with there programing system and

Try to google it , or go to your manufacturer's website and ask for a driver there. You can select there whether what OS you are using.

you need the Lexmark z23 driver installed on your computer first. Here is the lexmark website. just download the driver and install it. Once that is done you should be able to chose it when printing.

According to the Lexmark customer support web site there are no Vista drivers for the Z23. It must be too old now to warrant writting drivers for it.

You need to install driver software first, if you have the disk , install it from disk.

If you do not have the disk you must download the software from Internet, follow instructions below,

A web page will open, follow instructions, select model, select operative system etc., and click on download .
Chose to download the file in my documents when asked.
After downloading, find the file,double click on the file ,then ifyou get in troubles, followthe instructions below to reset and reinstall drivers:

• Unplug printer USB.
• Go to control panel >> installed printers in Windows and remove (delete ) any installed printer from printer list.
• Download driver from website, or use the disk and run the install file.
  
• Follow driver installation wizard.
• Plug back printer when prompted from installation wizard.

Note:someprinter does not work on Vista, if you do not find any driver downloadfor Vista on your model page, that means your model is not Vistacompatible.

Go to http://downloads.lexmark.com, and follow the instructions on the LEXMARK downloads page on how to load a VISTA COMPATIBLE driver for your machine. If you still have problems, contact Lexmark TECHNICAL SUPPORT on the same page.

log onto lexmark website, many download-able drivers available. Just had to do the samething myself.
