Note that a refilled cartridge will not be able to report its ink level. Check if correct ink level is displayed on your printer operator panel. Press Setup button > Maintenance > Ink Level - check your black and color ink levels. If ink levels are correct, then the problem could be on your computer.
The Print Spooler service on your computer may be disabled. To enable the Print Spooler service, follow the steps below:

1. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in "NET STOP SPOOLER" (this will stop the print spooler service)
2. Type in "NET START SPOOLER" (this will restart the print spooler service)

Try to check your ink levels again.

3. From the list, select Ink Level . The estimated ink levels appear for the print cartridges.

Method one: Check the ink levels from the idle screen on the color graphics display Look for four icons at the bottom of the color graphics display. The icons represent the ink level remaining in each of the four color ink cartridges: black, yellow, light cyan (blue), and light magenta (pink). A larger and more accurate view of the ink levels can be displayed from the Setup menu. If an ink cartridge containing non-HP ink is being used, a question mark displays instead of the ink drop in the icon for that cartridge. The HP All-in-One cannot detect the amount of ink remaining in ink cartridges that contain non-HP ink. Figure 1: Non-HP ink icon NOTE: HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink. Printer service or repairs required as a result of printer failure or damage attributable to the use of non-HP ink will not be covered under warranty. If a hollow ink drop icon displays, the ink cartridge represented by that color icon has very little ink remaining and will need to be changed soon. You might be able to continue printing for a short period of time with ink remaining in the print head assembly. Replace the ink cartridge when the Replace Soon warning message displays on the color graphics display. Figure 2: Low ink level icon When the Empty Ink message appears on the color graphics display, the indicated ink cartridge is out of ink. Replace the indicated ink cartridge. Method two: Check ink levels from the Windows computer The estimated amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridges can be checked from the computer. 1. Open the printer Toolbox. To do so, do one of the following:
   • Open HP Solution Center, click the Settings menu, then point to Print Settings , then click Printer Toolbox .
   • Right-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor in the tray, then point to your printer model name, and click Display Printer Toolbox .
   The Toolbox opens.
2. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. The estimated ink level gauges display.

Method three: Check ink levels from the Setup menu

1. Press Setup on the printer control panel.
2. Scroll down and select Display Ink Gauge . The Ink Gauge status from the Tools menu will only display on the color graphics display.

Checking ink levelsUse one of the following methods to check the ink levels. Method one: Check the ink levels from the HP All-in-One The ink level is displayed on the main screen of the control panel display. Locate the two icons that represent the print cartridges. The icon on the left is for the color cartridge and the icon on the right is for the black cartridge.

• The exclamation mark (! ) symbol indicates a low ink level.
• The question mark (? ) symbol indicates the product cannot determine the status of the print cartridge. This might be because the cartridge is refilled.

1. Make sure the product is on and connected to the computer.
2. Open HP Solution Center .
• Windows XP: On the Windows taskbar, click Start , click All Programs , point to HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
• Windows Vista: On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
• Windows 2000: On the Windows taskbar, click Start , click Programs , point to HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
3. Click Settings .
4. Point to Print Settings , and then click Printer Toolbox . Printer Toolbox opens.
5. Check the ink levels displayed on the Estimated Ink Levels tab.

1. Make sure that the product is turned on and connected to the computer.
2. Click Start and click Control Panel .
3. Double-click the Printer and Faxes folder.
4. Right-click the icon for the product and click Preferences .
5. Click the Services tab, and then click Service this Device .
6. The printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A graphic showing the estimated ink levels appears. The graphic shows both the color and black ink cartridge with the ink level indicated by the fill inside the cartridge diagram.

Most printer will let you check the ink level using the Menu and it is sometimes under a category called Supplies or Ink Levels. If this is a laser printer you are working with Toner and its not exactly the same.

you may get the ink levels in several ways,

1) printing a test page.
2)if you got HP solution Center with the software cd of the printer ans it is installed in the computer,you can easily check the ink levels there.
3)sometimes ink levels option is available in the priner drivers in the printers and faxes in the control panel.
4)right clik the printer icon and then goto properties and then you will find tabs to check the ink levels,it might be in the service this device under the maintenance tab.

1. First go to your HP Solutions Center (for a PC it's START --> PROGRAMS --> HP --> HP Solutions Center
2. Once that comes up click on SETTINGS --> STATUS --> VIEW INK LEVELS
3. To set your computer up to automatically tell you the ink levels everytime you print, then click CONFIGURATION and check the box that says "Display Ink Status Window", click the APPLY button.
