My pressure relief valve opens, why? I have an American Std boiler Mod# GPMX8. My pressure valve was leaking and boiler was operating at 16psi. After replacing the pressure valve. I refilled boiler and was able to pressurize the system to 16psi. I turned on boiler and gas ignited and water heated to 190deg. Gas shuts off. Then pressure begins to slowly rise and will rise to 30psi. I did hear a strange buzz comming from the transformmer.

SOURCE: kitchen faucet , reduced water flow / pressure

Hi ssam1

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

You want to know if you can fix a sudden low volume /pressure delivery problem on an American Standard model AS4205100 H7, one hole / single lever with pullout spray And is it fixable by owner?

Yes and maybe!

All plumbing systems are plauged with debrie buildup. Every time you turn on a faucet the water starts moving and will bring bits of debrie up from the water main or well. Most are small and will pass through to be caught by the screen in the aireator. Sometimes a relatively large piece comes along and dosen't make it through to the screen. It is stuck in the body of the valve.
Fixing takes a little mechanical ability.
First, turn off the water to the faucet in question. Then carefully disasemble paying close attention to the order of disasembly so you can reverse the order when putting back together. As each part is removed inspect it for that troublesome bit. I find that a little bit of wire or a paper clip is helpfull. Carefully reasemble. If the volume is still low then you missed finding that bit. Try again or call in a local pro.

SOURCE: Toilet tank is refilling slowly.

Hi AaronYC,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumbe.

Your problem is: Installed a new American Standard Cadet 3 toilet bowl and tank at home. When you turn the water supply on, the tank refills normally and stops normally. After you flush, the refill is very slow. When it refills normally the water comes out from the bottom of the pipe (i.e. the pipe that houses the float cup) and when it is refilling slowly, it comes from the top of the pipe. Sometimes (but not always), you can shut the water supply off and when you turn it back on, the flow of water goes from slow to fast instantly - but you haven't been able to recreate this consistently.

These are the facts. American Standard has been keeping costs down by out sourceing. Their toilets are now built in third world countries and parts are made cheap. They're all doing it. Quality control is pretty good but your toilet came with a bad "ballcock". That's the refill part on the left. Because it's new, if you take the ball **** back to place of purchase they should give you new. If not, they cost less than $ 10.00 and easy to replace.

SOURCE: American Standard Cadet 2-handle tub & shower set-Model#3275 - low pressure output

When you installed the new tub faucet you probably turned off the water to that faucet of even the whole house. IF IT IS AN OLDER HOUSE, TURNING THE WATER OFF AND BACK ON CAN LOOSEN SOME DEBRIS IN THE WATER LINES THAT CAN FIND THEIR WAY TO YOUR NEW FAUCET. If there is a screen at the end of the water outlet it can be clogged with gunk. Uncrew the screen on the water outlet and clean. You may also want to flush out the hot and cold outlets by turning the water off, removing the cartigages and slowly let water flush them out. Then reassemble. Also when you have the tub handles out you can turn the hot and cold supply valves off and on a few times to loosen more debris if it exsists........Joe

SOURCE: Champion4 leaks water through flush valve

You have replaced the flush valve completely? If so and the unit is still leaking, you may have a small crack in the tank or your just not getting the tank to bowl fittings tight enough. Also, they make two different thicknesses in the tank to bowl gasket. Make sure you are using the thicker of the two. You posted this under the American Std. thread, so if this is correct, give them a call. There could be a recall on this particular toilet due to a flaw.

SOURCE: NEW American Standard shower installed... leaks from shower head.

They do not all leak. The problem may be that your faucet is simply wearing out and is due to be replaced in total. Try putting some plumbers grease on the cartridge and the chamber.....not too much..........that may do the trick for u.

Alpha cd28c boiler loosing water and pressure through pr valve when heating is on,and when then switched off needs repressuring to use heating again.no obvious leaks.new pr valve been fitted.pressure

I assume losing pressure through the PR means Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) or temperature pressure (TPR). Open in TPR may mean boiler is overheating/overpressurized. Open in PRV means the Pressure Reducer/Fill Valve in the fill line of the boiler is broken.
House Water Pressure in a home is 30/40 PSI min to 60-80+PSI max.
Boiler PRV/TPR are set at 30 PSI open (SYSTEM PRESSURE) so too high a house water pressure will open the PRV/TPR. Replace the reduction regulator on/in the fill valve assembly

My boiler has a squeeling sound during the warmu up. I think it is coming from the expansion tank?

The squealing sound generally comes from a circulator pump, if it has a drive coupling between motor and impeller housing there is an oil cup/or oil hole, add oil until it is full! If it is a cartridge style circulator you may have to replace it.

Sometimes air in a system will cause this squeal noise as well. Purging the air out of system may be required. If you need to know how to purge a system there is a good pdf file at this link for $8.95 The Basics of Purging Air
From your Forced Hot Water System
&
Troubleshooting A Leaking Boiler
Relief Valve
Miller Furnace Books Repair

The Expansion tank is factory set to 12 psi and the only way to tell if it remains with 12 psi is to drop the system pressure to zero and check the tank with a pressure gauge. If water comes out the air valvestem when you apply the pressure gauge, the tank is bad, replace it! If there is less then 12 psi on the tank add air to 12 psi and open water valves back up to normal operating pressure. Usually the feed valve will automatically stop at the preset setting. If the boiler is leaking water out any relieve valve drains, the feed valve, relief valve and or expansion tank may need to be replaced.

Ravenheat 80/20 boiler. the boiler looses water pressure but only when working in central heating mode. Boiler holds pressure indefinitely if central heating is not used, hot water can be drawn without a...

Hi, your boilers pressure should be holding 1.5 bar with the relief set about 3. If the pressure is below this the flow switch will cause the boiler to stop as theirs not enough pressure to operate. Another thing, does your boiler have an auto fill system or do you need to plug a hose in to fill it? If its an auto fill system and you lose pressure you could have a leak.

Loss of pressure in boiler, no obvious leaks, water pressure switch changed plus pressure release valve

Check that your make up water is on.

Make sure your fill valve is working but it sounds like it is not. Your min pressure should be 15 psig. on the boiler. Fill valve will maintain a15 psig on the boiler. Water and pressure does get out of the boiler when radiators are bleed. When fill valve is not working people will keep bleeding the radiators trying to get heat but only lowering the boiler pressure with no water make up.

Make sure your boiler is getting water and has pressure when running.

If it isn't...SHUT DOWN and have a professional look at it.

Pressure relief valve is factory set ta 30 psig and opens when pressure is above 30 psig. This is a safety valve.

I have a alpha cd32 boiler, and i keep having to top the water up within the boiler,so to get hot water and heating again.i have checked for water leaks and nothing is found, however i did check the outlet...

Pressure relief valve - replace
The internal seal gets bunged up with dirt & scale and then leaks water [pressure] to that outside pipe
To avoid draining the whole system, turn off the two central heating taps on the 3/4 pipes and then operate the valve manually and / or disconnect - only a small amount of water will escape / drip to below the boiler
Replace valve and fill as before.
If you think your system needs flushing out - now is a good time
Turn off mains electricity to boiler before starting work

Boiler pressure

If there is no leak anywhere in the system [pipes & radiators] Check the emergency pressure relief valve. It usually is at the base of the boiler and drains to outside [15mm pipe] where, if the valve leaks, water drips can be seen.. Looks similar to the picture with your query
Renew the valve
You can take it apart and clean it but I've never found that to be successful in the long term

Boiler leak

Hi, it appears you have a defected relief valve. you can try one solution. lift the handle on the relief valve and let some water out. sometimes that can flush out materials thats blocking the stem in the valve. if it's still leaking it must be replace.

If this doesn’t work for you please write back. Thanks,

I have a ideal mini c24 cobi boiler and it isnt holding pressure the are no leaks inside the house it just seems to be releasing the water for the central heating from the blow off pipe outside so i keep...

So the boiler relief valve is leaking? What is the boiler pressure when the relief valve leaks? The relief valve will have a pressure rating on it. If the relief valve leaks when the pressure in the boiler is lower than the relief valve setting then its just a bad relief valve. If the relief valve is leaking when the boiler pressure gets above the relief valve pressure setting then the relief valve is doing its job and there is another problem. Several things can cause the boilers pressure to go higher than the relief valves setting. It could be a bad expansion tank or one that needs to be drained and re-charged. It could be a bad cold water fill valve that isn't shutting off and is over filling the system, rasing the pressure above the relief valve setting. If this boiler also does your domestic hot water, I have seen where the domestic hot waters heat exchanger has a hole in it and the domestic hot water is mixing with the boilers water and over pressuring the boiler.

Gravity feed boiler/ american standard model#g27dpgc

your make up water pressure is greater than the safety relief pressure. The safety should be 30psi lift. the makup usually goes through a regulator called an automatic makeup valve. these valves operate infrequently on a closed system and get rusty. They stick. If yours is stuck open, then your makeup water pressure which is probably greater than 30psi is overpressuring your boiler.
