I wonder what I should do next. It all was working fine until 2 days ago then it stoppes. Any help you can offer I would be very greatful for.

One other user has the same problem.

  • rootbeergirl May 28, 2008

OK I just had the repair man out to fix my ice maker and what it is is the sensor in the door of the fridge (the one that controls the led light) was faulty. It blinks that its OK (2 blinks on and of when the door is open and a steady light when the flap is pushed closed) this has to be changed out. Appartently this part has been know to be faulty in The whirlpool brand. In fact right now there is a class action lawsiut the is filed against Whirlpool. You all can look it up on the net.

  • rootbeergirl May 29, 2008

OK the tech replaced the optic board and the ice maker still dosnt work called him back out and he put the original board back in and says he has to order a sensor because the teeth in the ice maker tray are stuck (I dont know because if I did I could fix the dang thing myself) So right now no water filling the ice maker and no release ice ice cubes if it could make them. Here is the link to the lawsuit (perhaps I miss understood what I read and was told by the tech who came to my house. I mentioned to him about water valve in back and that it could be faulty. He said in his opion that that wouldnt keep the ice maker from moving.

Yep...the LED light blinks correctly...after about a week, it stops. I unplug

the fridge & plug back in. Almost like "rebooting" the fridge!! ( I work in IT, so I thought I would give it a try, but I didn't spend $1000 - to unplug & replug my Whirlpool fridge every week. Whirlpool said...too bad, so sad.

I have the same problem. Would you please instructions to change part or what every solution you may have. Everything was fine until I changed the filter.

I have the same problem water in the door but no water to the ice maker. Please send instructions to [email protected]

  • betzzyb Mar 20, 2009

Same Problem area: Whirlpool Conquest GS6SHAXKQ01 Built 10-01.
    water @ door is fine.
I observe no water to ice-maker.
    I observe no motor noises.
There in no infared signal to be seen, nothing, not flashing, just nothing.

With a voltage detector, electricity can be observed going to the optic boards and motor.
    I have defrosted freezer.
I have additionally applied a blow dryer to the dispenser nozzle.
    I have cleaned under refrigerator.

I'm thinking optic board(s) . How do I check to see if they are working or not?

Hi all rootbeergirl here. I had the optics changed and the moter on the other side of the icemaker changed I was able to send them both back to Whirlpool because they were both faulty and my fridge was still under warranty and the repair person I had out was a whirlpool warranty certifed rep. I guess I was lucky but whirlpool did tell me that they were having issues with both parts burning out. But now that they are changed it has been been working like a charm. The repair man did suggest that if you are not useing your ice maker alot then you should turn it to the off posistion and let the ice run low or dump the ice holder on a weekly basis. Hope this helps. alsop to replace both parts if you have to pay runs about $300.00

I had the same problem. I unplugged the Frig. and began to take the ice maker out.

While disconnecting the ice maker, I noticed an ice plug in the black tube that allows water into the ice maker. I wiggled the tube and was able to get the ice plug out of the black tube.

So, you may be able to use a hair dryer to make sure there's no ice in the black tube. I plugged the frig. back in and MAKE SURE the Infrared is in the ON position, maybe even turn it OFF and ON firmly.

After about 2 minutes the Ice Maker began working. YEAH !!! You MAY need to UNPLUG the FRIG. a couple of times for about 2 minutes, and turn the INFARED ON AND OFF a couple of times, then wait to make sure ALL the PRESSURE/ICE is out of the Black tube.

You need to check the water valve in the back of the unit it is a daul valve you can switch the wires to test should have 120v

  • Anonymous May 28, 2008

I dont belive you have fixed the problem the icemaker Optics are for two purposes they stop the ice maker from overfilling the bin on the door and wont allow the icemaker to run with the door open YOU stated you were not getting water out of the valve to fill the icemaker not that the icemaker just stopped working PS: The optics rarely go out.BTW Whirlpool has many lawsuits going on at anytime but there is none over the Ice Maker if you have the link plz post it

  • Anonymous May 29, 2008

Well if i were in your shoes I would have him come back reinstall your Optics boards and tell him to hit the road as the icemaker is what is in need of replacing the part# is 2198597 it is about $165.00 I dont know what he has charged you as of now but it does not sound like he knows what he is doing and just is a parts changer. You know .......keep changing parts until you fix it theroy!!! If you want instructions on how to replace it yourself post your email i will send that info to you

Whirlpool ice maker will not fill with water

1st check to see if fill tube is frozen that goes through back freezer wall to feed water to ice maker. If it is, thaw it and replace water valve. If not frozen, then you must determine if water valve or ice maker is bad. You must determine if Ice maker is sending voltage to valve. If it is, replace valve. If it's not, replace ice maker.

Whirlpool side by side with water and icemaker. My water works perfectly fine but my ice maker no longer produces ice. It runs but it's not getting any water to make ice. What can be done to fix this?

There are a couple reasons your icemaker will not fill with water.
First thing you want to check for is a frozen fill tube to the icemaker. The easiest way to check for a frozen line is to remove the icemaker. Once the icemaker is removed look for ice in the fill tube. If there is ice in the tube the (water valve) will need to be replaced. You can melt the ice by forcing hot water up the fill tube.
Another reason could be the icemaker is not sending voltage to the water valve. The fix for this issue is to replace the icemaker. Hope this helps you with your whirlpool fridge!

The reason to change the water valve with a frozen water line is because the solenoid is not closing all the way. This allows water to enter the fill tube of the icemaker and freeze based on the temperature.

My freezer is not freezing anymore please help as can not afford a new one ..thank you

Hi,
Follow the steps mentioned below to solve the problem:
First remove the ice bin and look inside the mold of the ice maker to see if it is full of ice. If the ice sensing arm is down ( on position) and the ice maker is full of ice, there is a failure inside the ice maker and the ice maker should be replaced.
If there is no ice in the ice maker, look at the fill tube on the rear of the ice maker. If the fill tube is frozen up the ice maker can't fill.
You can defrost the fill tube with a hair dryer.
The water valve on the rear of the refrigerator supplies water to the water dispenser and the ice maker. Since the water dispenser is working, the only line that could be blocked runs up the back of the cabinet and attaches to the fill tube for the ice maker. The water valve could be bad and not sending water to the ice maker.
If the fill tube freezes again you should replace the water valve.
Hope this helps.

I have a Whirlpool model # ET1CHEXVB00 refridgerator. I just (few minutes ago) replaced the ice maker valve because water was no longer getting to the icemaker. Very shortly after I plugged the...

Sounds like the fill tube at the ice maker is either out of alignment or has a crack in it.

The water supply line from the water inlet valve enters the rear of the freezer and releases the water into a large diameter fill tube. The fill tubes hangs above the fill cup which funnels the water into the ice mold. If the fill tube and fill cup are improperly aligned, water may spill out instead of going into the mold.

Whirlpool automatic icemaker not working

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. It’s on the back where the water supply comes in. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

I need to install a new fitting (part # 2196157). That is the fill tube on the ice maker on our whirlpool refrigerator (model number ed2fhgxkt00) The water line is already detached since the threaded part...

Yes that s it. You may have to tug a little to get the old one out as sometimes the foam will try to hold them in a little tight.

One thing to check before you connect your water line. Take a look at the end of the water line for a minute make sure that no water is going to drip out of it. If it does you may as well replace the valve because that is going to plug the tube with ice and possibly damage the ice maker.

Reconnect your water line and flip the ice maker on and the water should start to flow shortly. That s it.

Thanks for asking.

Whirlpool GR2FHTXVQ00 fridge. Water dispenser

The water inlet valve on the back of the unit where the water supply comes in can have a slow leak and will cause ice to buildup and block the fill tube. Disconnect the ice maker line from the valve and watch to see if it has a slow drip. It doesn’t take much to eventually block the fill tube.
The valve can leak because of sediment in the water preventing it from closing or low water pressure.

You can thaw out the fill tube and replace the inlet valves.
