have you tried unplugging and replugging in cord and waiting 3 minutes? Otherwise you have to go to control panel, then go to power settings and check to make sure it is enabled
Power on the laptop without the battery in the unit. If it powers on, then place the battery in and it will start to charge. Sometime the Dell laptop will not see the battery when it is replaced.
If your old battery was doing the same (not charging), then is is because the charger is not charging the battery. Do you have a friend with a Dell laptop? Maybe you can use a borrowed charger to test and see if it will charge the batteries. To answer your question , no Dell does not have anything built in to prevent you from using a 3rd party battery.
