Look for bad caps first and main AC fuse, yours is very similar to VA702.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Hi! My Viewsonic VA721 LCD Color Monitor's screen is getting darker over time. I've had it for about 5 years. Is it just getting "old" and worn out or is there something I can do to correct...

It can be that the power supply is dying due to bad caps (or worn out backlight lamps) as shown in my pictures here:
http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Viewsonic%20VA721/
It is old monitor so it may not be worth spending on it.
Please leave rating if it helps.

Viewsonic n3251w not power on

Do you have sound? If your have sound then the mains are working correctly but the High voltage to the screen is not. The screaming sound like the High voltage is shorted or at least drawing very excessive current. In either case the power supply for this unit is specific and made by JeanCo in Taiwan and good luck finding a supply. The LCD modules are made by CMO and they have an office in Califronia and might have a power supply.

Good luck!
