Tape mechanism problems are quite complicated but they can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I’m a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I’m semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

If this response has been of any help to you, please be sure and give a positive vote for me on FixYa.com .

How do I load the tape

I see your picture of a cassette player. Guess you are referring to that. (tapes also come in reel-to-reel, and 8-track). Just push the "EJECT" button (power may need to be applied to some units for the eject button to work). The tape slot will open. Insert tape with exposed tape on the "head" side of the opening, usually the heads are on the bottom of the slot.. You can't put it in any other way and have the door close. The "door" that opens has guides for you to slide the tape into. The side you want to listen to should face you. Either manually close the tape compartment or push the close button (depending on model). If the door doesn't close, you put it in upside down. Push play and enjoy.

I just got an Onkyo R1 TA-RW505 dual cassette deck and the left deck door won't open with the eject button. I did get it open by sliding a slim knife behind the door and it appears that there is a

This is most common as the catch is there to stop you from opening the cassette door while the head base is in the up position. The reason many of these cheap dual cassette decks all have this problem is that the mechanisms are not built to last and then the cost to repair them exceeds their value. You need to find out why the mechanism is not getting back to the stop position and when you do this the eject issue will be fixed. Typically it is a stretched belt.
Putting it in is another matter though.

Sony TC-WR690 doors will not open to remove the cassette.

If you remove the cover after unplugging the AC, you will see that when you push the eject button that on the back side the putton is held back by a white plastic piece. Push down the white plastic piece as you press the eject button. The door will open and the tape will release. I jsut did this today on my Sony TC WR 670 dual tape player. Both sides were blocked. I noticed that both fuses on the board were also blown. New fuses didn't solve the problem. May be that the transformer is out?

The screen says "remove the cassette" but when i press the eject button the box lifts up but the door doesn't open to let the tape out.

The cassette may be stuck in there somehow, or the tape has been eaten. At any rate, one needs to maybe 'help' to open the door, with the risk of destroying the tape. But, you have no choice but to try to pull the old tape out any way you can (without damaging the unit, of course).

I wish you luck on this problem.

Sony TRV530 has cassette holder stuck half way out

Thats an interruption of the ejection process, either you push it, you were on low battery, the energy was interrupted or you leave the camera in a car and th heat/cold affects it. Try to cheat/reset the camera system: Remove the clock cell, remove the battery or ac/cord at the same time you push the eject button once. Wait for an hour. Place the clock battery. Connect the AC/Charger cord or the battery (it MUST be completely charged). The camera will reset, check out and complete the ejection.

Cassette door stuck closed

Firstly: do not think about forcing the cassette door! Look inside the unit. You need to hand rotate the capstan flywheel a bit,( a large-ish metal disc attached to the motor via a rubber drive belt.)That should release the powered deck mechanism and allow ejection. Then buy a new drive belt , so that problem does not recurr. Good Luck
