How do I add text to a scanned document?

Hi all. I am trying to select parts of a pdf document and pasting into a word document. No success in selecting and so I'm trying to convert the whole document or import it to Word in some way, so that I can do the selection then. Any ideas?

You certainly can convert an adobe file to editable word file but if you think that all OCRs convert the document 100% into editable format then you are about to make a costly mistake. Your converted document is bound to have errors which you need to remove ( unless of course your original is a picture perfect document). No OCR on this planet guarantees 100% correct conversion in all documents all the time.

Therefore it is extremely important that you must proof read your editable format document before you start to edit. If you don't do that it can be a very expensive mistake you made in life.

Some people (including me ) pay $2.0 per+ per page and get it edited by experienced staff on a paid site like http://www.onlinedocumentconversion.com.

Hello,

Below instruction might be helpful to you.

With the PDF document open in Acrobat 7 Standard or Professional, choose File > Save As. In the Save As dialog box, choose Microsoft Word Document from the Format (Mac) or Type (Windows) pop-up menu. Then simply click the Save button, and open the document in Word for editing. The conversion may not be perfect, depending on factors such as the complexity of the layout, and whether you have the document's fonts on your system. For simple business documents, Acrobat's Save As command does a decent job of converting to Word.

Thank you.

1. Click PDF on the Custom Scan with One-click tab or click PDF in the one-click mode screen to open the PDF dialog box.
* If you wish to convert the text in a document to editable text data, scan the item with the OCR. The precision of OCR is affected by the nature of the scanned original

2. Select the type of document to be scanned.
Important
To scan correctly, select a document type that matches the document to be scanned.

3. Select a file type to save the scanned image.
Select PDF, PDF(Multiple Pages) or PDF(Add Page)
Important
Click Set... to open a dialog box and specify the PDF compression type and other advanced settings for creating PDF files.
4. Place the first original on the scanner and click the [Scan] button at the right bottom corner of the PDF window.

5. When scanning is completed, place the next original and click the [Scan] button.

6. Repeat scanning by clicking the [Scan] button until you finish all the originals.
7. When all the original is finished, click the [Exit] button.

8. When the scan is complete, it automatically starts the application program that displays PDF files and opens the scanned image file in it.

To scan a text document or black and white document, you are recommended to set the Scan Mode to Black and White or Grayscale.
You are recommended to limit the number of pages in any one multiple PDF file to 20 or less if you are scanning a color document with the Image Quality set to 300 dpi and the size to a setting equivalent to Letter size.

I have a scanned PDF document that I want to highlight and previously when the text wasn't recongnized it would ask to convert. At one point I checked the "do not ask again" box and now I am...

Basically Acrobat comes with a feature called as OCR (Optical Character Recognition) which helps acrobat in recognizing the text being used in a particular scanned document.
Just for the information, Acrobat 7 used to come with OCR accuracy of approximately 85% which has increased to 95% accuracy in the latest version of Acrobat (Acrobat X)
Now, in Acrobat 7, what you need to do is try running the OCR again on this document by following the steps mentioned below:
  • Open the document in Acrobat 7
  • Go to Document menu at the top
  • Click OCR text Recognition option under that menu
  • Then Recognize Text using OCR under that
  • This will open recognize text dialog box
  • Make sure All Pages option is selected in the new dialog box
  • Then click the edit button available in the same dialog box
  • This should open recognize text setting dialog box
  • Select Clearscan option in PDF Output Style drop down
  • Click Ok and then Ok again which should start the OCR on the open document
  • After OCR successfully completes try highlighting the text and see if you can do it
If you are still unable to do it, I would suggest you to download the trial version of Acrobat X from adobe.com which is a fully functional version which you can use for 30 days. After downloading this trial try opening the same document there and try running the OCR again and perform the highlighting of text again in Acrobat X itself.
If it still does not work please reply back with the results of the above mentioned steps and we can try performing some other workarounds to make the text recognizable.

How to scan picture to upload on computer

First, ensure you are connecting the scanner to your computer. I'm assuming USB connection, and that you're using an operating system supported by this device.

Next, install the drivers and software for this device. Those should have come with an installation disc, but if you don't have that disc, you can get them from the PIXMA MP830 support site, here:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=123&modelid=12804

To scan a single document, place the document:
1. Place the document face down on the platen glass.
2. Open the MP Navigator 2.2 software.
3. Click Scan Photo/Document.
4. Click Document Type drop-down arrow and select the type of document to be scanned. Chose from the following types.
  • Color Document(Simplex): Select this to scan one side of color documents.
  • Color Document(Duplex): Select this to scan both sides of color documents.
  • B/W Document(Simplex): Select this to scan one side of monochrome documents.
  • B/W Document(Duplex): Select this to scan both sides of monochrome documents.
  • Text(Simplex): Select this to scan one side of text documents.
  • Text(Duplex): Select this to scan both sides of text documents.
5. Click 'Specify' and set the preferences as required. Click here for detailed information

6. After making the setting changes, click 'Scan'

7. Click 'Save to PC' or 'Save as PDF file'. Save to PC is displayed when an image is captured with Scan Photo/Document or Batch Scanning

The directions for Batch Scanning, or using the ADF to scan, are shown below.
  1. Place the document(s) in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).
    1. To scan using the ADF, remove any documents from the platen glass.
    2. Open the document tray.

    3. Insert the documents face-up in the ADF and then adjust the document guides.

      Note:
When scanning using the ADF, the documents will automatically feed.

  2. On the Windows desktop, double-click 'MP Navigator 2.2'.
    1. Alternatively, on the Windows taskbar, click 'Start', point to '(All) Programs', 'Canon', then 'MP Navigator 2.2'.
    2. Then click 'MP Navigator 2.2'. MP Navigator opens.

  3. Click 'Batch Scanning'.

Question about copying direct from scan to a Word document

Check if your Canon software creates a PDF image. A scanned image is a RASTER image, a series of dots, that 'appear' like text or drawing. You cannot use Ctrl-C or Ctrl-v. If the software creates a PDF file, you can cut & paste. Usr any good OCR (Optical Character recognition) software ad convert the raster image to editable text. Then you can cut & paste.

Help with adobe 7.1.0

In order to edit a PDF document, you will need either one of Adobe's commercial Acrobat products or a similar third-party application.

You can often copy the contents of a PDF document to a word processor or text editor program (e.g., Microsoft Word or Notepad) and then edit them, but in this case you cannot resave the document as PDF (unless your word processor specifically has the ability to create PDF files).

To copy the document's contents:

from the Adobe Reader Edit menu,

choose Save as Text.

Alternatively, from the Edit menu, choose Select All; then, from the same menu, choose Copy, and then paste the text into your word processing program using that program's paste function.
