Discs not playing

I have had this model for many years but recently when I insert a disc the sign 'no disc' is displayed.
I try different discs and clean them before inserting them.
I am at a loss to know how to remedy the problem.
Does it need expert attention ?
Thanks

Don't know this issue with this particular player, but have had other Technics (Matsushita, Panasonic...) CD players doing something similar to this. In most cases, those were carousel players instead of single disc players like yours. These units had optical sensors that determined the presence of CDs in each tray slot by determining whether light was blocked from its LED to its sensor when a disc was present... no light at sensor meant that there was a CD in the slot. The sensors interpreted a shadow as an indication of a disc in the tray. I've had these sensors fail and not be able to determine that a disc was blocking its light signal... the players didn't "see" discs so they wouldn't play them. Solutions varied, but cheapest, easiest solution was often to open the player and blind the sensor completely with a piece of black electrical tape. Most of these sensors I have encountered got too sensitive, so that any light at all inside the player was seen as an empty slot. Blinding the sensors "fixed" most of these players, but disabled the ability to really tell that any given tray slot was empty.
Or, since it is an old player, there is also the possibility that it has simply run its course and the laser assembly has failed.

Good Luck.

Player will not play disc Hit play and the word disc show in the display window. Any suggestions???

You did not post the make and model of the player, What you describe is a common sign that the player does not know a disk is inserted in the unit. This can be because the head on the player is not able to move or the laser diode is failing.

Why does computer play only one disc in 2-disc set?

Look very closely at that DVD, Richard. Look for fingerprints or scarring near the transparent center section - DVD recording always starts in the middle and progresses outward, the opposite of vinyl records.

I used my Pioneer DVD-RAM DVR-112CH for a few years; and I was able to play all my discs without any problems (all are legit). I mainly use AnyDVD to play any of my DVDs. But I had noticed recently that...

Hi, You can try testing the discs on a different player. The problem may be with a scratched disc or damaged disc. The player seems to be fine if it works with other discs. In any case, I have provided a link to the player's manual: http://tv.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/jvc/jvc_xv_n320b_xvn320b.html

I have a Sony Psyc CD Walkman D-Ej010 and I will have a cd in there at it will play for a few minutes and then stop and say no-disc. What could be the problem?

There may be a couple of reasons why a NO DISC , DISC ERROR or INSERT DISC error may appear in the display of your CD player. Try doing the following steps to troubleshoot why the error is displayed:
  • For disc players with a HOLD switch, make sure to move the switch to the OFF position.
  • Verify that the disc being used is supported by the CD player. NOTE: CD players do not support VCD or DVD discs. In addition, some CD players do not support CD-R or CD-RW discs that are created by a CD burner. For information regarding disc compatibility with your player, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product
  • Ensure a disc has been inserted into the player. Make sure that the disc is inserted correctly, with the playback side of the disc facing down on the disc tray.
  • If the disc still does not play, attempt to play a different, commercially-produced disc.
  • NOTE: If more than one of the commercially-produced discs do not play, verify whether the discs are extended-length discs. Some players are not able to play discs where the recording exceeds the standard 74 minutes. If the recording of the disc is longer than 74 minutes, it is possible that some of the specifications of that disc were compromised and therefore, the CD player will not recognize that disc.
  • If the disc is dirty with fingerprints or smudges, or if the disc is scratched or broken, the CD player may not recognize the disc.Clean the disc using a soft, dry cloth.
  • Properly reinsert the disc into the player.
  • Attempt to play the disc again.
  • Only press the PLAY button once. If the PLAY button is pressed more than once, the disc may stop playing.
  • If the disc is still not recognized, remove the disc and leave the CD player powered on for approximately one hour to resolve the possibility of moisture condensation inside the player.
  • Please use a Lens Cleaning disc and check if that helps.

If the issue persists, please click hear to locate the repair facility near your area.

Thanks for understanding. Please let me know if you require any clarifications.

Disc drive ejects blank discs...plays dvds

Hi Again,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Work!

You need to let me know what type of PowerBook G4 it is as the instructions for each are different. However, what I will do is give you the links to the appropriate sites and some instructions for them:
  1. First you need to reset the Power Management Unit (PMU). To do this refer to THIS page. A little way down is a heading 'PowerBook and iBook models covered in this document'. Select the model listed in blue below this which will take you lower down the page to the instructions for your model.
  2. After restarting try your drive again. If it doesn't work, try a dvd drive cleaning disc.
  3. If it still doesn't work your drive is Kaput! If you're near Kent in the UK then I can help you out. If not find a local Apple Specialist who can replace the drive for you.
All the best

DVD doesn't play any disk anymore. Displays a message: this can't of disc can't be played ... I tried several different types of disks.

Same here! It would say something along the lines of "this type of disc cannot be played. please insert a different disc." it's the appropriate dvd region, i've tried all types of dvds, and it still won't work. the vhs and cd still works, it's just the dvd player that won't.

Device display now says "bad" and TV display says "Incorrect disc"

Sounds like the player has a dvd mech/picup problem, will probably require a repair that is more expensive than a new player, they are as low as $30 and personally I dont even try to repair my own, I just go buy a new one. There may have been some dirt on the disc that is blocking the laser if you want to try a cleaning disc I doubt it would hurt it anymore.
