I can't find my driver cd that came with the scanner is there the whole file some where on the net the one from visioneer is useless it does not detect that the scanner is connecyted to the Computer.

The 9420 visioneer Scanner driver will run the 8900 scanner.
first,go to visioneer and download the .MSI file for the 9420. Run it. The driver files will be found in directory: C:\Visioneer\OneTouch 4.0\9420 Drivers.next, find the 8900 drivers.they will be in c:\ Windows\twain_32\vizscan8xxx. open the file and look for rtscan.dll Rename it old rtscan.dll.if you can't find them,either use Device manager to show you where they are. or you can reinstall the Driver(Xp\2000\Me\Win 89 from Visioneer site. Rename the rtscan.dll file which will be in the twain_32 folder(see above).
copy all the files in 9420 Driver file to the c:\Windows\twain_32\vizcsan8xxx folder. turn your scanner on.windows should find the drivers and install the scanner.

You will have to uninstall the device. Delete any files it created on the drive as part of the install. (Not things you'[ve scanned, just program files) then disconnect the scanner. Reattach the scanner in a different USB port (different SCSI id if your using SCSI) and let Windows re-detect the scanner.

This time don't run the setup from the driver CD. Instead let Windows find the scanner and try and set it up on it's own, if it prompts you for a driver, point it to the INF file in the installer directory. If it doesn't, let it use the one it chooses.

After installing in this way you should be able to use the scanner as a TWAIN source from any application.

Below is a link to the list  of the only scanners that VISIONEER has written a Vista driver for(and not likly to write any more for former scaners.)  Your model in not on that list. Unless, for some reason , they decide to write a Vista driver,you will never bve ableo to use that scanner with the Vista  OS. I just downloaded the XP driver for this scanner from the Visioneer web site. It came with just the driver, as I recall, or you could order the replacement CD for just a shipping charge of under ten bucks. They may have one or two other programs that they supply for download, and they had links to third party vendors who supply the other software on the CD.

I believe that they had a Vista driver for it as well. 

I also downloaded the file--and I believe that it was larger in size than the Visioneer download--from driverscollection.com. I have not yet installed that download to see what the difference might be.

After downloading the visioneer 9420 driver file (found on the visioneer site, but before installing it, remove your old 8100 driver, then install the 9420 driver by running the .exe file you downloaded from visioneer. Then, use Device Manager, go to -update device drivers and in the listing you should see the 8100 listed. Double click on it, click on -update, go to -browse my computer for driver software, then go to -let me pick from a list, then you should see the 8100 scanner appear, click on it, click on next, and then it will install the 9420 driver. My 8100 is working great on a vista system. Don't get rid of that scanner! It works!

It's quite possible. Does the scanner connect to the computer via a USB or parallel (old style printer) port?

If the answer is USB, then I believe you might find what you need HERE.

My only reservation is the "P" in the model name you gave. I didn't find any Visioneer scanners w/ a "P" in the model name. However, this one lists drivers going all the way back to Windows 98SE. So, this may very well be the ticket.

Take a look at the picture of the scanner you see at the link I gave you. If it looks right, go ahead and download the manual and take a look at that. If, after viewing the manual, you're convinced it is for your scanner, then go ahead and download the drivers for it and install them on your XP system.

As always, make sure you create a System Restore point b4 making changes to your system like installing or uninstalling software or drivers.

try installing this http://support.visioneer.com/drivers/4400/ENU/4400.303110.EN.exe even thought it is xp driver, I think it should work better than original Vista driver.
