You can reset the camera to original default settings by going into the menu and finding "reset"...follow the on-screen instructions. After that, you can go into the menu and find "format" and follow the instructions to format the card. This will erase it so download any pics first.

SOURCE: new memory card will not format

You are probably using a 4 gigabyte memory card and your camera will only support a 2 gigabyte card. Get the right card and it will format properly.

SOURCE: when i turn the camera on....it saids memory card

Use a computer with memory card reader, and read the card using a computer.

If the computer says the same and does not read the card, then the pictures inside the card are usually lost.

If computer instead does read the card, then transfer all picture on computer using the memory card reader, and format the card using complete formatting.

If you need to use the camera tonight, then buy a spare memory card.
If the camera returns same error on different card, then you may have a faulty memory card slot, but that is quite uncommon.

If your using more than 2GB of SD card or if yous using the SDHC card it will not format the Memory card.

Try to used the recommended Memory card 2GB or 1GB SD card It will reformat your card. Too Much or too High SD card is not compatible on DX camera series

SOURCE: after inserting the new SanDisk, SDHC Card, 8GB

First thing; check owner's manual and USA distributor, make absolutely sure that this camera is able to read/write to a 8GB card!
If so, put that card into your computer, directly into appropriate slot or through a "reader" and the USB port. If computer runs Windows, access My Computer, click on external memory device, and RIGHT CLICK. You will get a box which offers to format the card. You can rename the card at the same time. The computer's format routine is stronger that the one in the camera. If problem still happens, consult distributor. May be fixable with a cable from camera to USB port, you download new software from distributor. Follow their instructions EXACTLY.

I just bought a new nexxtech 16gb sdhc memory and everytime i turn on my camera it says the memory needs to be formatted. after choosing "continue" when it says formatting will delete...

I would check your C663 manual to make sure your camera is capable of reading a 16GB card. Because thats a fairly large drive for such a a legacy camera I would also insert the card in your PC and format it there to make sure it is functional. Maybe copy some files on it and delete it to make sure the card is working properly.

My kodak easysharecamera keeps saying the memory card needs to be

I'm having the exact same problem! I have formatted 2 SD cards on the computer and it still didn't work. Every time I've tried formatting on the camera, it says it is and then says again that it needs to be formatted. I even went out and bought a whole new Kodak SD card, thinking I just needed a Kodak one, but no luck.
I can't help, but I was just wondering if you ever got the problem solved because I really would like to know.

Cannot format memory card

Hi Mr.
  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

My Kodak EasyShare C315 needs formatting.

For all the camera users whose cameras won't format...they can't accept all the info on a 2 gb memory card... install a 1 gb card...worked like a charm for me! C315 and others were made before the 2 gb card. Only 1 gb cards work in the older cameras.

    Cards not working with camera

If you used the SD/MMC memory card in another brand of camera or device, you may need to format the card in your new EasyShare digital camera. (You may have noticed a "Memory Card Needs Formatting" message when you inserted the card.) CAUTION: Formatting deletes all pictures and videos, including those that are protected. Removing a card during formatting may damage the card. To format the SD/MMC memory card or the internal memory of the camera: Transfer images to the computer before formatting the memory card. Press the camera Menu button. Highlight SETUP MENU, and then press the OK button. Highlight FORMAT, and then press the OK button. Highlight an option - MEMORY CARD (deletes everything on the card), CANCEL (exits without formatting), or INTERNAL MEMORY (deletes everything in internal memory). Press the OK button. Highlight Continue, and then press the OK button. Wait until formatting is finished before removing the card. When formatting is complete, the SETUP MENU is displayed. Press the Menu button to exit the menu.
