Are you sure your pc is not asking for a DRIVER for your current video card?
If you see anything on screen, you have a video card.
Unless you have installed some game or graphics intense program, and it is stating you need a better graphics card, I'd say you just need to reinstall the driver for your current card.
Go to dells support website:
http://supportapj.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=au&l=en&s=dhs
put in the service tag of your computer (on a label on the case or base of your computer.
confirm your model
under "Refine your results",
select your operating system,
then select video from the category list
you should then have a list of related drivers, each with a download button next to it.
Your model dell may have several different video cards available, you may need to download and try more than one.
once you have chosen the most likely driver, click on the download button next to it, then in the next window select download underneath the "download via your internet browser"
when you get the file download warning box, click save, and save it to the desktop.
Once it is complete, open it, or go to the desktop and open it, ie double click it and follow the instructions. after that you should be prompted to reboot your computer. either way, once its finished, reboot your computer and your graphics card driver should be installed correctly.
Hope this helps.
If you need help or get stuck, let me know, but please also supply the service tag of your system, and the exact message you're getting regarding the graphics card.
hope this helps.
