I have a Canon SD200 and am trying to download images to my computer. I have done so many times before but no success this time. Interface cable is attached, mode set to playback. Direct transfer menu doesn't appear on camera's LCD monitor and print/share button does not blink blue.

You can connect camcorder with Acer Aspire using a USB port and cable.
But this interface only allows transfer of still images from the SD card on the camera. It will not allow video images to be transferred from the tape.
Some models of Acer also have flywire interface (IEEE1394) and also SD card reader. You can use these also to download video images from the camcorder.
Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.
Supported windows Operating system
Windows 98 Second edition(SE) Windows Me Windows 2000 Service pack 4 Windows XP SP 1 and SP 2
Canon PowerShot A430 has no update about the new driver software for windows 7
Try doing this direct transfer in your computer
1. Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable of your camera.
2. Set the mode dial to (playback) and turn on the power. The camera and computer will be able to communicate.
3. If there is no pop up window that has Canon CameraWindow, Click the [Start] menu and select [all Programs] or [Programs]. followed by [Canon Utilities], [Camera Window], [PowerShot-IXY-IXUS-DV 6] and [CameraWindow]
4. Download the images. * Download the images using the camera or the computer. * By default, the downloaded images are saved into the [My Pictures] folder.
** If the above process does not work you can just use the memory card of your camera and connect that on your laptop. (some laptop has built in card reader) The memory card works like a flash drive and you can just transfer files like transferring from one folder to another.** Issue on the operating system compatibility.
connect the data cable to the computer & ur digi cam !!!! now keep the cam in the dispaly pic mode & switch on ur cam !!! now the digi cam operates like a pen drive u can now copy the images and paste it in ur system
Dear Dcarres,
To start with, please install the software that came along with the camera.. ones the installation is successfully completed, Connect the camera to the computer using the USB cable provided along with the camera and the computer should automatically detect the camera and launch the software.
Even if the computer doesn't launch the software.. you can go to "My computer" and you should be able to find a new drive letter along with your C,D and CD drive..
Double click on the new drive letter and go through the folders, you should be able to find the images in there.. Copy those images from that drive and paste them in "My Documents --> My pictures" or to any other location.
Once copy is done, left click on the green arrow icon in the system trey, next to time and select option "Safely remove the device" .. now you can unplug the camera.
I would look at the connection ports. Sometimes dust, dirt gets in there..Try blowing air into the connectors. You can use you mouth breath but a small air compressor works better..But I wouldn't over do it with to much air pressure... My iPhone mic was dirty...No one could hardly hear me...I done this and now they hear me good...Worth a try...It could bent prongs in the port or a bad cable. Good luck.
To quote Imaging-Resouce.com: He only got about 100 minutes off his battery. Here's what he said:
Slightly better than average battery life for a compact model, but think about buying a second battery anyway. The Canon Powershot SD200 uses a custom rechargeable LiIon battery for power, and uses a custom power adapter, so I couldn't perform my usual direct measurements of its power consumption, but did check how long it would run on a fully charged battery. Like most compact digicams, battery life on the SD200 is a little on the short side, with a worst-case run time (capture mode, with the LCD turned on) of 107 minutes by actual measurement. This is better than many compact and subcompact models, but I'd still strongly recommend purchasing a second battery along with the camera, and keeping it charged as a spare. (Digicam batteries always die at the worst possible times.)
I found this for cheap "Replacement Camera Battery for Canon Powershot SD200 " SKU NB4L103719

To increase battery life, turn off unnecessary features like
any beep feature, reduce the picture review display time, etc.
How many minutes are you getting out of it?
Player, could you be more specific on the symptoms. Does the image also look blurry on the LCD. Any weird colors? And please reconfirm that you have a Canon SD200 (SD Card) and not an S200 (Compact Flash Card).
Select image>image size, make sure that the 'resample image' box is unticked and change the resolution to 300 dpi. This will automatically change the image size.
