Intex Automatic Salt Water System for Above Ground Saltwater Pool Logo
Posted on Jun 04, 2010

I keep getting code 90 (low water flow) on my Intex Salt Water System for Above Pools. I imagine that it could be a result of my water filter not being powerful enough. Could be the problem. I want to be sure before I go out and buy another water filter. The pool is only a 10' by 30''

If your pool has the skimmer system there is a hose coming from the bottom of the skimmer to the wall of the pool which would be your suction to the pump. Disconnect the hose clamp from the suction port that goes through the wall of the pool remove the hose then unscrew the blue adapter on the inside of the pool there you will find a strainer / screen. Whatever gets pass the basket in the skimmer get's plugged up in that screen causing the pump to starve for water causing the LOW FLOW sensor to go off on the Saltwater pump.

Let me know if this helps any.

Hi, is there any chance someone can post photos of which parts to disconnect and which parts are to clean. Just to help me visualise and make it easier for me to sort it out. We always get code 90 error, especially when we use the vacuum. Thanks.

I have the 15' pool and have been operating the system for several weeks without issue. When low flow comes on, it is usually the filter is needing replacement.

However, now I have low flow and filter is NOT dirty. I removed and cleaned flow sensor according to book (it was NOT dirty either). Problem continues. The flow feels fine when you put your hand to the outlet. I finally removed the cylindrical filter from the pump and am running without filter just to keep pool chlorinated and copper ions until I can contact Intex.

But check your filter, wash out the pipeline, etc. first.

I had the same problem. I cleaned and then changed the filter, cleaned the sensor, everything the book said. It ended up that there were leaves and stuff clogging the strainer right as the water leaves the pool and goes into the hose on the way to the filter. Check there.

This is the most probable cause of code 90 low flow, it needs to be cleaned out everytime u vacuum and at least once a week. Im referring to the small filter strainer where the water leaves the pool. Unscrew the blue outer part, you will be surprised how much junk is in there.

I have a model 8110 that I have been using for about 4 years. I have had Code 90 come up several times. Usually it requires back flushing the sand filter and making sure the skimmer basket is clean. I have also found the screen on the inlet at the pump plugged with debris causing low water flow. You have to take the hose off at the pump itself to check the inlet screen. This year I had a low water flow alarm that didn't go away by making sure there was no restriction in the lines. The flow sensor was clean looking when I visually inspected it, but when I pulled the flow sensor off the plug, both prongs came out of the sensor. The prongs had corroded to the point of breaking off and were stuck in the plug. I pulled the prongs out of the plug and pushed them down into the sensor and re-installed the plug onto the sensor. This seems to be working so far but I think I had better get a new flow sensor ordered.

This has been a great product and has made pool maintenance so much easier and cheaper.

What does code 80

Can't remember what 80 means off the top of my head (ours has them printed on the front of the device, low flow or low salt springs to mind) but Intex supply all of their manuals online (we've had to reprint once or twice!) at http://www.intexdevelopment.com/index.php/home/above-ground-pools/agp-accessories/saltwater-system.html?manual=1 (for the non-US versions). All of the codes are listed in the appropriate manual for your system.
Good luck!

My intex saltwater system pool is cloudy

The chlorine level maybe too low and it is allowing algae to start growing.
Check the Ph level, it should be around 7.
Check the chlorine level in the pools water, use your chlorine test kit.
Check the salt levels, make sure it is at the correct concentration, too low a salt level and the Intex will not be able to generate enough chlorine.

What does code 90 mean

code 90 means low water flow

start by cleaning your filter with high pressure from garden hose
check all tubes for blockage
also check where the inlet tube connects to your pump, sometimes hair builds up there and blocks other debris
also check your electro cell for build up
also check your flow sensor this can be removed easily
