Hi, my name is John. As long as your SWR is not over a two, and the antenna are the same length and grounded good, it should be the same end result, no difference.........hope this was very helpful.Rate this solution on the four thumbs-up.......John

What is the advantage of adding glass fiber in concrete?

Fibers are usually used in concrete to control cracking due to plastic shrinkage and to drying shrinkage. They also reduce the permeability of concrete and thus reduce bleeding of water. Some types of fibers produce greater impact-, abrasion-, and shatter-resistance in concrete. Generally fibers do not increase the flexural strength of concrete, and so cannot replace moment-resisting or structural steel reinforcement. Indeed, some fibers actually reduce the strength of concrete.

Very poor radio reception

FM reception depends upon having a good antenna matched to the radio. What type of radio are you using, and what are you using for an antenna?

My Saturn factory AM/FM radio on my 1996 SL gets some FM reception but no AM reception. I am trying to determine whether I need to repair the antenna or the radio.

You will need to pull the radio out of the dash and make sure the antenna is still pluged into the unit. If the antenna is in the windshield make sure the glass is not broken, and the wire broken. If there is an external antenn, you need to check the connection at the bottom of the antenna, and the wire is good between the antenna and the radio. Has any new items been mounted recently, the screws could have damaged the coax.

How do I calibrate swr when antenna has a threaded bottom and a fiber glass covering on the outside? also what do i do cut it off?

Normally an antenna which is made for cb should give a pretty low swr. However this does not always happen and many antennas cannot be adjusted. The best solution is to use an antenna tuner. There's a mobile antenna tuner, for cb radio, available at http://www.nevadaradio.co.uk/cb/cb-accessories/zetagi-mm-27 This will solve the problem for you.

Radio fades in and out...where is the antenna?

The antenna is part of the back glass. The antenna wires to pick the reception up are the same ones that defrost your rear window in the glass. You can check the connections behind the back "C" pillar posts. If the grids are broken this will reduce your reception.

FM/AM reception problem

It should- that splitter is generally used for factory telephone reception and also there is an antenna located in the rear window glass. It will work for radio reception but it will interfer with your phone if you have a phone installed. just make sure you have a good antenna ground. Try removing the grond and sanding the metal so that there is no paint or oxidation that causes higher resistance. This generally affects a.m. reception.

Excessive static on AM stations. Waves in and out. Not so on car radio. Is there an antenna to eliminate this?

Turn on the radio and turn the AM/SW BAND switch to the AM position. MW appears in the display. Use the outer ‘fast’ tuning knob to find stations, fine tuning with the inner ‘slow’ knob
when needed.

• If there is interference from adjacent stations, place the BAND WIDTH control in the NARROW position. If there is no interference, leave it in the WIDE position.

• If there is excess background noise, turn on
the SW LPF switch, which may minimize the noise.

• If a station is so strong that audio distortion occurs, reduce the gain level with the AM/SW RF GAIN control knob by turning it counterclockwise.

• The telescopic antenna does not have to be extended for AM reception. The radio has an internal, directional, ferrite-bar antenna for AM reception.

• To optimize AM reception, swivel the radio until maximum signal strength is achieved.

All of that being said: It's very tough nowadays to receive AM in this 2008 electronic world. If your able install a longwire SW antenna outside, and have access to a good earth ground, you can boost the AM signals and beat the noise being generated all around you.
