How do I hookup a dell inspiron I 6603049

To attach a computer to the internet, you will need to have an internet connection in your home.
Your Dell inspiron desktop does not have a wireless connection card in it, unless you ordered that with your purchase. Unlike laptops, which mostly do have a Wifi card in it, to be more mobile.

After subscribing you will probably get a router to connect to your ISP (Internet Service Provider) something like this, sometimes the antenna's are inside (the antenna is for wireless connections):http://www.dlink.com/-/media/images/Products/DIR/803/DIR803A1ImageHBack.png
In the yellow port comes the internet connection from the modem, in the ports 1,2,3 and 4 you can connect internet capable devices, so also a desktop computer.

Then to get your computer connecting to the router you need to attach a so-called patch cable http://www.computercablestore.com/Certified_Cat_6_Patch_Boo_Blue_catID2175.aspx
to the router and to your computer in the network port: Sometimes the ISP gives one added to the package when you get your router.

Normally after booting up the computer will find the network automatically, else call the helpdesk of your internet provider or ask a computer knowledgable person to help you.

This is a Fibre Glass Modem on the right and next to it a router (left), the router can connect to your computer.

Had century lik as my home page now when i log on the interet bing comes up don't want bing

go to your preferred home page if you are using internet explores select-tools- internet option then using tabs select use current page as home page. I don't care for bing either, you should a drop down box in upper right a dress bar drop down selections and select the search engine you want, you can also remove search engines that don't interest you. If you are using fire fox go to the site you wish as home page dgdrag the icon over to far right to the home icon and drop it.

Icannot download anything in my pc like songs like movie

Do you mean from web sites?
Or do you mean from a handheld device such as an I-POD?

Web downloading may be limited to how good your internet connection is. EG DSL; CABLE; DIAL-UP
If this is a problem how do pages like google.com load up?

If the issues are potable devices aka I-POD then most likly the USB port in the pc is not functioning
The presario dates back to win2000 / w98 days were drivers for the usb ports were never installed by the pc manufacturer. The harware may be there ports ect but do not work. Win
xp started the true intigration of usb hardware when installed. You did not mention what operating platform ur using so im speculating here...

If the local area connection icon specifies as network cable unplugged, then the computer has not sensed the connection between the computer to the cable modem / DSL modem, please reseat the cable behind the cable / dsl modem to the computer. If the icon still shows unplugged, then change the network cable between the two.

If the issue still persists, please revert with more details lik the kind of internet connection used and the reason for reinstalling.

Desktop wont connect to internet but laptop will

Is your cable modem also a wireless router?

From my search on it, it is not a wireless router.

This means you need to attach a hub or a wireless router to your cable modem so that more than one computer can connect to the internet simultaneously.

Go out and buy a wireless router. Connect the wireless router to your cable modem.

Connect your desktop to the wireless router with an ethernet cable.

Then you should have internet on your desktop.

Let me know if this helps. Give me a good rating and vote for me please.

You have to configure Internet Connections Sharing on the PC which has a dial-up service.
1. Click Start - Settings - Control Panel - Network Connections, right click on dial-up.
2. Clik on Properties, click on Advanced tab.
3. Under Internet Connection Sharing, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box

After that you must connect the other pc to this one via network cable.
If you don'y have network adapters you have to buy them.

We have a main pc attached to our broadband via ethernet and 1 other laptop which is also attached to the the internet but wirelss, my son has purchased an acer aspire 7730/7330 series laptop , how do we...

I think you need to specify the gateway address in your new laptop. For that you have to know the gateway address ( i,e. the IP address of your boardband router/ adsl modem.).

First, go to your old laptop, right click on My Network Places, Right click on the wireless lan connection and select properties. Click on Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click properties.
Take a note of the Default gateway.
Now come to your new laptop, use the procedure mentioned above to open the Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) Properties box. Type in the Default gateway address which you have noted earlier. Click ok twice. Now see if you can access the internet. If you can't then let me know the IP address configuration of both your old and new laptops.

On which port of the D-link router did you plug the WRT160N router?

Do this setup.

Disconnect the WRT160N from D-link.

Connect a computer to port 1 of the WRT160N. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. you may need to type in the username and password for WRT160N. on the setup page Change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. save the settings.

Connect a cable from port 1,2,3 or 4 of the D-link router to the Internet port of the WRT160N. turn off everything then turn them on starting from cable modem>D-link >WRT160N then computer.

You should be able to access the internet.
